Steve's Blood in the DNA swirl JEM??

I actually had the opportunity to speak to Steve about the DNA model at the NAMM show a couple of weeks ago. *In regards to the ammount of blood that he so graciously donated to the project, he said "about a pint".

Goofy, I am usually on your side when it comes to the DNA, but in this circumstance, I am not.

Sure, there is a lot of hype surrounding these guitars, but nonetheless, Vai did sacrifice a pint of his blood for the guitar. *A pint is not very much at all, but it's more than most musicians, or anyone for that matter, would give up.

Ok...even though everyone here is saying yes its true its true...A pint??? They made 300 guitars paintjobs with a pint of blood?? How much actual blood went into the mix? Couldn't have been much....Maybe I don't know alot about finishes or something but maybe in truth only the first 1-25 have his ACTUAL blood in it or they just spread out a tiny tiny bit into each and every DNA. I dont know seems like a lot of effort and work for something that is kinda crazy.

I thought it was obvious that the DNA (blood) inclusion was more hype than substance. Something cool vs something practical. Obviously the red is from paint/dye and not his blood... glen

I'm tempted to take Glen's point of view on this-yes, the entire blood-issue is definitely a great hype-machine to boost the mystique of the guitars. *And no, a single pint of blood isn't much. *The only person who would really know the actual blood to paint ratio would be Darren himself. *Nevertheless, I think that the perfect saying to sum this topic up would be "It's the thought that counts". *Maybe there's some Vai-blood in your DNA, maybe not...but it's the mystery that makes it so much fun! *Oh yeah...that and that fact that they're excellent guitars! * *But...just my $.02 worth

Steve's Blood in the DNA swirl JEM??

There is blood in ALL 300 guitars. Most of the color is from red paint. That's all I can say or I WILL be killed. Darren is a New Yorker after all...

The blood is more of a symbolic thing - there is a little of Steve in every guitar...

Steve's Blood in the DNA swirl JEM??

Alright well now I'm just really confused. First Glen just says a straight out "yes". Don't know if he was being serious or not. Then he basically said no. I'd like to believe what vaijem777 said because this IS a very mysterious thing and it makes it cool. Even though I would never buy a JEM (tremy-tremy) they are awesome instruments and it would be cool to think that SOME DNA's have the blood and some don't. (Ibanez should have a contest to find 3 owners of guitars that do have the blood in them and give them 1 free Jem ever made and 1 of every Jem made in the future) hahahaha thatd would be great. *Anyways back to the blood thing...Then Dave says that there IS in fact blood in every single DNA. I don't know Dave personally so I don't know how much to take it seriously but as you can understand I'm still a little skeptical....

...Geez for someone who doesn't even like Jem's much I'm really interested in this aren't I???

see above. yes, there is a small amount of blood used in the mix by Darren. Dave is doing Darren's ATD site and i'll have to comb the old forum to see if Darren commented further on it.

So the answer above to your original question is unchanged. Yes ...glen

I have no experience with JEMDNAs, but there's more than a pint soaked into my old strat copy and my Ibanez S series (too much gigging for too long!)

For the record your if you own a DNA you have a good amount of the "DNA" . The "blood red" paint that I mixed was mixed at a ratio of aprox. 8/1 so the content is quiet high. There had to be pigment mixed into the paint to hold it onto the guitar as well as a carrirer . If you purchase a canvas you get a picture of myself and someone mixing it in to the color. Also a picture of the room we did the guitars in too. The canvases also have
the same content as I mixed all the DNA left into the paint when I left Japan and brought the paint back with me . I hope this clears things up for you . NO contest but if there was there would be alot of free stuff . Darn
I could enter too ( bummer you know those diclaimers no friends family or swirlers allowed to participate dag-nab-it!!!)

I wonder what biohazard percautions were gone through if an when they adde the blood. Im pretty sure once it was thrown in with the paints it was all good.
