Trem post set screws

post removed... loosen the set screw. You will have to tighten the set-screw so it loosens up and is free to move. The set screw should be able to protrude from the tip of the stud... glen

you must free the set-screw to move. to do that turn the set-screw clockwise.

Once free, *lower the screw until the tip just protrudes then back it off 1 turn so it is flush.

insert the stud, insert the trem, set the trem height then LOCK the set-screw (and stud)... glen

Trem post set screws

You have to "tighten" the SET SCREW. *(watch the first 4 seconds of the SET SCREW movie again). *This will loosen it from trying to be backed out the top of the TREM POST. *

The TREM POST is used for adjusting the bridge height. *
DO NOT try to use the SET SCREW to try adjusting bridge height (you'll either strip it out or see no results).

Once the desired trem height is achieved using the TREM POSTS, tighten the SET SCREW (by hand ONLY!)

Trem post set screws

try to force it loose. turn the set screw CLOCKWISE. Use a PLIERS to help turn the 1.5mm allen-wrench. If you break the allen-wrench, then you're out of luck... you will have to buy a new stud.

Alternate is soak the stud in oil overnight and hope it loosens up.

personally, i'd buy two new studs just for the sake of having a nice, new knife edge for the tremolo ... glen

The set screw does not protude. Its end is just visible, as in ready to come out, but hard as a rock

Trem post set screws

WOW! *Those little guys sure are hard to explain, huh? *As soon as I took the post out of the body, the lightbulb flashed on. *"Screw-within-a-screw" is the best description I've seen.
I'm glad that so many others have "discovered" this. *Every other part of my guitar was fairly intuitive, but the set screws may be the Edge's best kept secret! *-Andy

Julio, get on your knees and get the WD-40 back! *If you have the posts completely out of the body, then spray inside of the post if you can. *Using your 1.5mm Allen wrench, try working it clockwise, then counter-clockwise, etc. *With plenty of WD-40 in there, you should be able to gradually turn it more and more, one way, then the next. *DON'T TWIST TOO HARD, though.
Just make sure to wipe them down really well before putting them back in the guitar.

The 1.5mm wrench has twisted around itself!

I´ve done it!!!! The wrench is now useless....but I´ve done it...

The set screw is loose, and now moves in and out!!

Thanks Glen/Kevan for the "live help line"

Trem post set screws

I had the exact same problem with my 1st Edge. *I posted here, and got a response in minutes. * Thanks guys! *Tightening the screws fixed my pitch problems immediately. *

On my 2nd RG, I received the original documentation and it specifies the existence of the set screws, but does not advise you to loosen them before adjusting the height of the trem. *

As an aside, I was going thru some old Guitar Player mag's a few nights ago, and in one of the '88 issues, they did a new product review on a JEM DY. *They specifically mentioned the set screws as one of the many new innovations that were included in the JEM series.
