Tremsetter - Has anyone used one of these?

I vaguely remember the tremsetter being mentioned previously, but couldn't find the thread. *The tremsetter is supposed to bring the tremolo back to neutral after use. *It replaces one of the tremolo springs.

Has anyone used one (or two) of these? *I'm playing a 7 string with 10 ga. strings and using 5 springs with the claw almost screwed in the whole way.

There was a BackStop in my old Maxxas - I always thought it made the Edge trem feel a little stiff; very subtle warbling wasn't really in the cards with that thing installed. It wasn't awful, but I've never regretted NOT having one - then again, I've got .009s on my Universe... *I don't imagine you'd notice much difference between it and five springs, but since you'd have to remove two springs to install it, it may not be possible to use it on the Universe, anyway...

Any guitar I ever had with trem setters had them taken out as soon as I got home. *I really hated them. *I felt they really limited what you could do with the bar so bye bye.
Jimi D, why do you need 5 springs in a UV? *I've got .009's on all my 7's (2 UV's and a couple RG's) and find that 3 springs are perfect. *I do prefer having the 2 outboard springs angled though. *The trem ends at holes 1 & 5 and the claw end at 2 & 4.

It all depends on how you use your trem and what your priorities are.

If you like the really loose, fluid feel of the Edge and you like to do whammy tricks like flutters, the TremSetter isn't for you.

I've got one installed on one of my guitars and i quite like it for the following reasons:

1. It has a nice, stiff feel
2. If you break a string, the bridge stays put and doesn't go out of tune (provided you've got the TremSetter tension really cranked up)
3. It returns to pitch extremely well (again, with it cranked up) but it's got a bit of a "detent" feel in its centre position, which can make subtle trem use difficult
4. High frequencies don't seem to be bled off as much by the trem, giving you a bit more "shimmer" in your sound, akin to having a fixed or blocked trem... and you can still pull up on the trem

You can loosen the TremSetter to get a smoother feel (which is what i do), but you lose benefit #2.

For me, it's worth it for the tonal benefits to lose the ability to flutter.

I have it installed in a RG560 with 3 springs and 10's.It works!!
I might install a 4'th spring, as in dive only mode the bridge still pulls up a bit on bends.
