UV7 '97 - What all makes it so horrible?
Is it just the fact that it's ugly, or was it poorly constructed?
I don't really want one(uless someone wants to unload one WAY cheap), I'm just curious.

same quality construction as all the non-AANJ UVs (the original 4). Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but personally i'd take the all-black one over the old black/green ones for looks... glen

I too would take a silver dot over a green dot, and IMO I'd bet it ends up being the rarest UV of all, yes, even the GR.

I love them.... I suppose I'm a little biased though, seeing as it is my first UV

This was originally going to be the guitar i've always wanted until I ended up with the UV777GR. I've always liked the green and black combination. Otherwise, any Universe is of great quality, despite the AANJ or non-AANJ differences. It's all personal preference.

The '97 UV7 was my 1st 7-string as well. *I tried to see if they still had the black/green available but sadly they didn't. *It's still a great guitar, but the following year they came out with the RG7 series. *After 5 months of waiting & $1400 invested, I recieved my all-black UV7. *A few months later (after the new RG7s arrived), my UV looked like an RG7620BK w/ a pickguard. *I expected a lot more for $1400.

I think it lacks identity. The green dot UV may seem ugly in some people's eyes, but at least it has something a bit of kilt about it (ie the green) to make it stand out (admittedly not as much as a MC, but still). In my opinion the all black one sort of lacks that, and just, as the post above sais, looks like an RG7 with a scratchplate. Far too understated for it's own good.

I really love my UV7'97.
The sound is awesome, and I really think it is unique *compared to my 90HAM. It may lack a visual identity, but definetly not a *sound* identity
The AANJ is troubling issue, but I deal fine with it
And, because it's black and simple, I can scratch it w/o being worried and painful (on the contrary of the 90HAM :biggrin
Nicolas.
