Re: What Guitar Strings do you use?

I don't even know why it's a discussion anymore. Everyone should be using the ZOG strings from Zachary guitars! Actually, the brand and various gimmicks are Irrelavant. It is how the strings relate to the guitar and to each other that makes the difference.

At least learn how to put together your own sets. The whole gauge tension thing may seem complicated at first, but it is something you should be aware of just like all the other aspects of the instrument. You don't really know the guitar or how it works until you understand string tension, string gauges and how they affect playabilty and tone.

yeah my fender neck would of snapped if I kept my 13's on, which was a surprise to me cause SRV had no probs with his older neck version that I figured would be weaker. and Dino we get it already, you love Zachary jk man, I'm going to try a set or at least make my own set just to try em out cause if you never try anything new you are just an A$$ hah

I use.10 Elixirs, (Polyweb) they have amazing sound and long life (well at least the ones I have had LoL) but they are great if you are willing to pay the cash for them.

Re: What Guitar Strings do you use?

Seeing this thread is about strings, can someone tell me if IBANEZ make their own brand of strings? Because if they don't then I bought some fake ones in Bangkok. I dont care cause I only paid $1AUS for them each, and they seem to be working well ....

Re: What Guitar Strings do you use?

Custom set of GHS singles, with a D'Addario on the bottom. .0095-.013-.018w-.024-.034-.048-.064. Works great. Even tension all the way and the wound .018 means you don't have to dick around with the tuning either, as a G-string usually does. (In my case F)

Re: What Guitar Strings do you use?

At this point I'm juggling between D'Addario 9's and 10's, GHS Boomers 10's, and Snake Oil Rock Formula 10's for different guitars. I'm starting to like the D'Addario's for general use but the Snake Oils are a cool flavor all their own.

Re: What Guitar Strings do you use?

I'm trying out some Curt Mangan strings that were suggested to me by a friend. I was told Curt used to be a part of Ernie Ball until the kids took over the company. Curt left the company to start his own string company (picks too) but I hear he still gets all his materials from EB.

I set up my new puzzle top for 9-42s but changed out the B (11) for a 12 and the low E (42) for a 44 for a more even tension when going from string to string. Defintely noticable across the board in feel.

I would set all my tremmed guitars for these gauges if a company would put together sets like that and I could get a reasonable price. Right now, I'm only doing this with the puzzle top Ibanez. I can't afford to pay $5 a set with as many sets as I go thru to do this with all my guitars. I'm going to contact Curt and see how he is about endorsements
