Same here. I've had elixirs on guitars for up to 8 months before any noticeable wear happened, and I play 1-2 hours a day.

Re: What Guitar Strings do you use?

Didn't look through the entire thread, but I've recent;y been contemplating switching to 10s. I currently use D'Addario 9.5-44 and they've been great so far, but I also want to try out some 10s. Since setting up the bridge/neck for a new gauge will be a pain, I was wondering if anyone here uses 10s.

Is it more difficult to play faster passages on 10-46 vs. 9.5-44?
Do you like your tone better with heavier gauge strings?

Any other comments are of course welcome.

Thanks.

Re: What Guitar Strings do you use?

Well, I've been playing with 10s for some time now, having started with 9s. I love how it's improved my tone, and after my fingers have strengthen, I don't feel playing has become more difficult.
There is one problem though ...
Whenever I play my friend's guitars (which he strings with 9s), I break a string - because of my maniacal bending

I use EB 10s BUT, with progressive string tension, hehe. It kicks ass

Re: What Guitar Strings do you use?

I'm currently using Blue Steel srings (10-49). They settle in within 3 hours (unlike 2 days for some other strings), and they keep their shine for longer.

D'addario 0.009s on S and 0.010s everywhere else. Thinking of changing for 10s on S though.

I like the sound of that; how much caring for them were you doing for them to last that long? (Wiping, etc.)

Re: What Guitar Strings do you use?

I used Rotosound reds, (Rotoreds) 11's. They get black very fast I switched to D'Addario EXL 115. I had Elixirs too. The Elixir last long but I prefer D'Addario.

I tune them 1.5 (1 1/2) step down and they sound awesome. Tons of sustain and a masive warm sound. I called my guitar Godzilla.

Now I feel tempted to switch to EPS 600 wich is the 13's prosteels. Unfortunately I didn't find them in the shops in Romania.

I think I would tune them 3 steps down or 3.5 (3 1/2).

Re: What Guitar Strings do you use?

i had been using D'Addario .010-.046 and DM Blue Steels, but recently i've been buying Martin strings in bulk because i have a few guitars and change strings often. in bulk, they cost about $1.75 a set, and they stay fresh and moisture-free in their plastic bags.
