Re: What Guitar Strings do you use?

Anyone use *PURE* nickel strings? Note that strings labelled "Nickel" are almost invariably nickel plated over copper plate over steel.

I've found two really interesting articles on the net about the trend away from pure nickel to nickel plate which occurred in the '50's onwards - unfortunately I can't link them being a newbie.

Opinions?

Re: What Guitar Strings do you use?

I can never change of the D'addario strings.
I have two gauge selection preferences; I use 8-46 on my strat and 12-52 on my Prestige. Each is for a different type of playing.

I believe String gauge selection will depend on countless factors, ranging from potentiality of string bendings to weight of tone desired.

wow i was actually...greatly offended by that zachary guitars site.

they may be a good idea, but calling everyone a "****ing idiot" and acting like a 14th century priest with rabies isn't the way to attract customers...

Rotosound Pinks (009s) or Electro-Harmonix 009s. At the end of the days its not the strings but the fingers that move them that matter. Signature strings sets make me laugh. Like thats going to make you sound like your guitar hero of choice?

Re: What Guitar Strings do you use?

D'Addario 9's on all my guitars, except my Hellraiser and acoustic. On the acoustic, I use 10s because it seems to fit the style better, and I don't need to play as fast, do crazy bends, etc. And on my Hellraiser, I use Ernie ball 9s, because a friend told me you get virtually no sound from the active pickups with Ernie Ball strings. And he was right!
