Agh! Help me with my computer issue!

Ugh! I can't stand my computer not working! Maybe there is a way to fix this without sending it to compaq.
First off, I have THIS:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1218093382970
compaq desktop computer.
JUST got it about 2 months ago but still out of best buy's return policy.
Came with Vista on it but I immediately wiped it off and put on Windows XP and Windows 7 RC. Dual booted these. Mostly used the windows 7 RC. Both were working fine. Then when I chose windows XP one of the days, it said some system32 file was missing. Wasn't really a problem since I was mainly using the win7 RC. I just ignored it.
Well about 2 weeks later I come back from school(left the computer on all day) and it was like the computer was in sleep mode or something(but the blue "on" button light was lit up so the computer was "on"). So I tried shaking the mouse and pressing buttons on the keyboard. Nothing came back to life(Monitor stayed absolutely black). Keyboard lights wern't on and neither was the mouse light.
So I figured I'd just manually restart the computer and try again. SAME thing happened. NOTHING ever came up on the screen, NOTHING. Not even the option to pick windows 7 or windows XP. I know its not the monitor, keyboard, or mouse, as I've eliminated that possibility by testing those on other computers.
What could be the problem?
Also, All the USB ports work(When I plug my phone into them, it charges).
Is the computer not waking up from sleep mode or something?
Ive tried repeatedly pressing F8 and such top try to get to safe mode but cant manage to get there. It just baffles me that I can't even see stuff off of my monitor.
Ugh! Please help!
Thanks!

Re: Agh! Help me with my computer issue!

if the PC is actually on (dvd try will open, etc.) it sounds like a bad video driver.

you should be able to F1 or F11/F12 boot to the bios however.

press F8 every few seconds and try to boot to VGA mode (not just safe mode).

If you get it up & running turn off hibernation. Then make sure the mouse/keyboard are enabled to wakeup the pc. Device manager find mouse & right click into device properties make sure you have "allow this device to wake up PC" in power management tab.

do the same for keyboard to make sure either device will wakeup the keyboard.

you should really just reinstall Vista which will allow a clean upgrade to Window7. The RC expires next spring so that will create an annoyance... glen

well that's good. who knows if it was a huge issue or not but at least you have peace. i would stay away from compaq or hp. my recommendation is dell or mac (i use both.) actually ibm laptops can be ok too. i have gone back to building my pc's though. cheaper and i know exactly what's in them. glad it worked out for you.

The difference, however, is you *can* fix PC issues Rob, I'd be happy to sort that PC out if you lived nearby.

While we're on the subject, I still find this pc vs. mac ad amusing after all these years - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEAGmBRC1dc
