an MS Outlook wizards here ? - pst file problems

I hope someone here knows the answer, my pst outlook file has exceeded 2gb - I had no idea it was so large but ive used all the tools from microtoss to try and solve this but no joy.

ive basically lost all my mails and contacts etc etc - this wouldnt be such a big issue but I ddint back them up for 6 months - i know i know, a hard lesson..

so, I found some software (cant afford it) that recovers the files in the oversized pst but if anyone here knows another solution I would love to know it..

cheers

J.

what outlook version are you using? this problem shouldn't exist since outlook 2003.
Did you try the scanpst tool:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=197316
If the scanpst fail because of the 2GB limit you have this ms tool:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...ng=en#Overview
All it does is shrink your pst back to 2GB so you loose some data.

Avi, cheers mate I tried all that.
I was using outlook 2000. I shrank the file by 100 mb and it stil does not work
even after scanpst and defragging etc.

Did you try recreating your outlook profile and then import all the data from the old pst to the new profile?

Re: an MS Outlook wizards here ? - pst file problems

When I was using that version ages ago I used to have to archive that PST file with everything older than 6 months or so. It would create an "Archive" PST then that was big but meant the "Outlook" PST was a decent size. You still have access to the older emails but this only works if you can start Outlook and manually archive...I dont know if you can or if it crashes or something.

Hope it helps anyway.

Do you have access to a copy of Outlook 2003 or 2007? That 2 gig was a hard limit, as was 16K items, but you should be able to fix that pst with a newer version of Outlook.

Download the office 2007 trial for 60 days and get all your stuff out of the pst file.

sussed it !!!

bloody thing, I upgraded to 2007 and it wouldnt play ball, so I used the truncating tool and reverted back to the 2000 version of scanpst after truncation (is that a word) and its fine now, I got a lot of stuff back !

thanks to you all for your help, especially Avi and Jim
