The average citizen is vulnerable to criminals that carry guns and knives illegally.

why brag about going no-where unarmed ?

Because when you can protect yourself you don't have to rely on the government to do it for you. That's the beauty of being a citizen and not a subject.

please dont take this the wrong way but for your cousins "across the pond" you sound like a nutcase !

I never ceases to amaze how the moment someone displays their interest in firearms and the desire to protect themselves they're labeled a nutcase.

I really dont want to have anything to do with guns, I appreciate the mechanical beauty of them but the end use..... is to make holes in human beings...

A firearm is a tool designed to do a job and that job is to propel a lead mass at a high velocity. End of story. A firearm doesn't not discharge on its own. A human being has to make a conscious decision to put their finger on the trigger before a firearm will discharge.

I find guns disgusting and I sincerly wish that unless you needed them to find food or some other good use

Would it be correct to say then that you do not consider self defense a "good use" of a firearm?

So civilian firearm ownership is, for all intents and purposes, banned in the UK yet violent crime is rampant. Another stunning example of gun control having absolutely no affect on violent crime. It's actually quite simple - criminals by definition do not obey laws, including firearms laws.
Listen, if you don't like firearms that's fine but it's illogical to blame them for all of society's problems. When the disenfranchised feel they have nothing to lose, human life has no value and they will do whatever they have to to get what they want. Firearm related crimes are a symptom of a larger problem but they are not the problem themselves. Until everyone realizes that, we as a society will never get past the knee jerk emotional responses (Ewww! I hate guns because they kill people!) we will never be able to all work together to create a society in which our fellow man does not feel the need to use violence to get what they want.
