anyone here do jeet kune do or any other martial arts?

Hi all, As well as guitar my other hobby is jun fan jeet kune do, i have been training in jkd since early 2001, Before this i trained in karate for a couple of years when i was 13 yrs old.
I have had the honour of training with 2 of Bruce lee's original studants over the years. I realy enjoy jkd and think training in martial arts teaches you many things about yourself and others. I look forward to your thoughts......................

I've never studied JKD or Wing Chun, but I have studied Seido Juku with Kaicho Nakamura and currently study ITF TKD. I also just started Jook Lum Southern Mantis, but I mean I REALLY just started it.

I did a small stint of jeet kune do and wing chung for a couple of months a very long time ago (probably 10 years ago or so) and I really liked it, but unfortunately I just didn't have the time to get into it with a lot of other stuff going on.

I have been doing Thai boxing and Jiu Jitsu for about the last 6 years or so, and I really gravitate more towards this type of stuff for the time being.

I give anyone applause for attempting (or sticking with) any type of martial arts, because there is more to be said about just learning punches, kicks, forms, rolls, throws, weapons, etc, that lead to the integral aspect of learning body mechanics and teaching your body to do what your mind is taught.

I used to do Shotokan karate when I was 3 up to age 7. At age 7 I started Muay Thai (Thai Boxing), which I've been doing for about 9 years now. I've also done some Judo in between. My dad was one of the greatest Karatekas in Israel so I also learn many techniques from him.

True Martial arts isn't only about physical well being, it's also about mental well being. Most "Martial-arts" have lost that mental state of being and have become sports.

Anyways whether you do sports or martial-arts, it's good for you to do some physical activity. We have too many obese people here in the U.S.

i've done, ju jitsu, wa do ryu, chinese kickboxing, american sport kickboxing, wka and muai thai. I really enjoy it and love competing in the odd tournament. Great fun!

I studied judo up to the age of 12, got a Brown Belt (which means I was as well trained as Chuck Norris

), but I had to make a choice between school and Judo. In order to progress to a Black Belt, I would've had to train 5 days a week. Two days was great fun, but more wasn't worth it then.

In hindsight it was a shame that they sorta pushed me to make that choice at that time, if I'd gone to train two days a week, slowly increasing at say 14/15 to 3/4 days, eventually doing 5-6 days at 17 would've been possible.

On the other hand, the style of Judo in competition hasn't appealed to me in ages, it's just too passive. Much of the beauty, balance, speed and control has been lost. The emphasis, not just in Judo, is on not losing.

Other more recent additions to the Martial Arts seem to focus more on Martial than on Art. It appears Jeet Kune Do also follows that pattern, but at least it will have some aggression in it. I think that should be the goal: Controlled Aggression. (both in mind and body, of yourself and your opponent)

Reading about JKD, it appears JDK eschews the parts of Judo I liked so much (the beauty of perfect motion, making mechanics work for you) and in stead introduces what I really don't like: all the quasi oriental philosphy stuff...

It also seems to follow a familiar pattern; there are competing factions of "true believers" who all claim to adhere to the founder's original purpose.

Though this really doesn't qualify as "Martial Arts", the nature of my work requires safety training that uses a few techniques that are designed to incapacitate a person without hurting them but still maintaining our safety.
They really are quite effective holds. I had my dad in one and he's a lot stronger than I am, but he couldn't get out of my hold, nor could he get his arms around to hit me. When we use are two person holds, it's pretty much game over for whoever we get ahold of.

I did it back in college all early to late 90's. I had a mixed instructor so I learned JKD, some Wing Chun, Muay Thai, Jiu Jitsu and some Dim Mak. Got a blackbelt, but about a year before graduation I had to stop. Just not enough time to do engineering, engineering senior project, homework, work, AND martial arts.

I do have my belt...somewhere. About all I do now is hit my water-filled-base heavy bag in the garage. It's a pretty good workout though. I used to love to spar in class. We did it on a points system and not to hurt each other.

It's really fun to watch UFC though. I find myself juking and jiving as the fight is going on. I'm wondering when/if they'll make UFC open to women. I would imagine there would be lots of women that would jump at the chance to fight in the UFC.

Check out Strikeforce and WCL. There are some women's division in those. Look up Gina Carano.

EliteXC looked promising for women as well until they filed bankruptcy.

Yeah someone else who also likes the extreme tiger balm scent that you only get in Muay Thai gyms. Also I think I might have met your instructor somewhere.
