anyone know anything about wireless routers?

I just moved into a new apartment. I've been trying to get my mac onto the wireless router but I need a password. My room mate doesn't remember what it is. It's saved on his computer but it's hidden by the dot thingies. Does anyone know any tricks on how to fix a problem like this? Is there some way to restart the router from scratch? Any help would be appreciated.

The router must have a small button on the back to reset it to factory conditions, push it for 10 seconds and then still pushing power it up and keep the buton pushed 10 secs, that for sure will reset it to factory (belkin, Linkys, etc etc) then use the original password that almost always is User..... (leave it blank) and password is almot always blank also or administrator, admin, or check the manual.

You might be able to get it off his PC using a program called ASTERWIN. That "unhides" passwords from under the dots. Google it.

Dowload this tool and run it on his pc...

http://www.gtopala.com/siw_download.html

It's totally harmless and you can delete it or carry it in a usb drive and let it live there.

Re: anyone know anything about wireless routers?

log into the router from your web browser using the ip like
http://192.168.0.1
if you don't know the login google your router model # and find the login (admin, password or admin no password.

then go into wireless settings and lookup the SSID, security type and KEY.

you probably can't read the KEY so use NOTEPAD to type up a key then paste in the new key and save the router settings.

this will disconnect any computer wirelessly connected as the key is changed.

now go into the wireless setup on each computer and use the NEW KEY

even with a lame MAC this should be easy. on XP it's idiot-proof beyond words ...glen
