I use AVG, works awesome, have used it for years and never had a problem and have heard nothing but great things about it from others as well.

Re: Best Anti-virus software?

I use Sophos but mainly because I get it free from work... but if I had to look at alternative I would have to agree with Gilky and say AVG. I don't like Symantec or Macafee products as they always seem to install ten ton of cr*p you don't really want or need

AVG here too, don't even bother with Norton, instant system slowdown after installation

AVG is great and it doesn't tax your systems engine so to speak. Norton is the worst software of all time.

I run a Pc Repair business and I would never recomend Norton. Except Norton Ghost that works a treat...

AVG FREE is great just for stopping a virus and its free !!!

At home I use AVG as it's free and has been pretty watertight so far.

I use Eset NOD32. This was rated one of the best anti-virus programs two years in a row. I have also used Kaspersky with success.

Re: Best Anti-virus software?

K, so it looks like AVG is a popular one. I have been using NOD32 for a couple of years and it's okay but I did get a couple of trojans and NOD didn't know they were there. Neither did Adaware or Sysbot Search and Destroy. Spyware Dr. took care of it for me. Some other programs would see it but not be able to remove it. Anyway it's time for a change so I think I'll give AVG a try with a new Vista 64bit install this weekend.

I find that no anti-virus program will protect you against everything, thats why I tend to use on-line scanners such as trendmicro,f-secure etc.. as a secondary line of defense. AVG is good though.

I don't use AV. Haven't used one for about 4 years, but for a good free one, get AVG. For a paid one, nothing beats Kaspersky.

The most important thing is a good firewall.

Interesting, I had always heard it the other way around. (decent firewall, and a good AV) Do you use PeerGuardian as an alternative?

Re: Best Anti-virus software?

I've been using avast most of the year and it's pretty good. It updates itself and so far my vista box hasn't gotten any viruses (knocking on wood). I also use norton but I don't have the version that will be compatible with vista, hence why I've been using avast.
