Bringing stuff on airplane

Hi there, my brother is coming from the States to Europe next week and i'm having him bring me some D'Addario 7 string packs and a Rode mic i can't find here in Portugal, but i started wandering:

Does anybody know if the somewhat overzealous USA airport security will have a problem with this?? They might see something dangerous in a packet of strings and a mic, even if it's in the cargo hold...

Anybody knows for sure this stuff doesn't get blocked on check in??

As an airline employee I can tell you that airport security ain't going to care about guitar strings. The Rode mic on the other hand is something he may get questioned on and if you really care about it, he should bring it with him as part of his carry on luggage.

Realistically if airport security has a problem with your brother's luggage the airline would probably call him out for questioning. The thing is, putting anything of real value in checked luggage isn't a wise as things DO GO missing when put in regular checked luggage. I've seen people lose laptops, cameras, camcorders, jewelry and other things in checked luggage.

Yeah, put it in carry-on and he'll be fine. If they have a question they'll just take a peek and let him through.

Carry it on. be prepared to answer questions about it if asked. Be polite but firm with your responses.
