broken wrist

so i highside my bike at cadwell and guess which part of my anatomy gets spanked the hardest??

MY LEFT WRIST... so playing guitar has become a painful waste of time.

annoyingly i got catapulted off the right hand side too so how the hell i damaged my left wrist i shall never work out!

Anyway, its about three weeks hence now and its getting no better, TBH i think its gotten worse. Which is ever so strange because the short, fat, balding, foreign bloke at the hospital who's professional opinion i put my trust in, said it was fine - just bruised, and chose not to allow me to go for an x-ray. I'm guessing that's because i didn't lay on the theatrics and start crying when he did his 'broken wrist tests' on me. Was i acting the hardman? No! The tests he tried genuinely didn't hurt but there were plenty of wrist functions he didn't test for pain which would suggest he didn't know what he was doing.

If he doesn't know enough about this subject to successfully deal with it, what other incompetence is getting away with? Whilst still collecting his fat wage every month. AND how many 'doctors' are getting away with the same thing?

Rant over.

Sod's law that i damaged my guitar playing wrist. Hope it heals soon.

Re: broken wrist

If it was outstretched, it could have been a scapholunate ligament tear, or even just a scaphoid fracture. There are about nine bones in the wrist, and they are all connected by little ligaments. If one of those gets torn, you may not feel any pain just letting it sit, but once you put any palmar pressure, it can really hurt. The bad thing is that because there are so many bones and ligaments in the wrist, it's hard for there to be an abundance of blood vessels. This can hinder or even prevent healing.

Let me ask you this: Do you have any trouble doing pushups? Can you easily lift your self off a bench (by putting your hands flat on the surface you're sitting on)?

Socialized medicine does not rock.
See a real Dr. and perhaps consider paying out of pocket so you actually get someone that will listen to you and soon.

Can't offer any advice except for making an appointment with a specialist. Hope you get well soon though...

That is the movement i have most trouble with, i cannot push myself off the floor at all. As soon as i put my hand down and try to put weight on it, it immediately hurts too much to use. The pain is mostly on top of the wrist joint but also spreads round underneath to the back edge of my palm.

Re: broken wrist

Then I guarantee you it's some sort of injury involving the scaphoid/lunate and their various ligaments. I'd try to get an MRI if I were you.

Re: broken wrist

dude, that is a harsh looking break!

hope they can sort you out and get you on the fast track to recovery. As you say it sucks big not being able to play. I've found myself being bored s**tless all the time with my guitar playing taken away.

Waylay00, thankyou so much for your advice. Its quite funny how i've found better medical knowledge on jemsite than i have at my local hospital. I'll try to get it scanned and now i'm armed with the extra knowledge of bone and ligament names you've given me, i will be able to better describe my injury and should stand a better chance of getting treated.

Re: broken wrist

Go to a specialist man, especially if you have insurance. The longer you wait, the worse the condition of your wrist will become.

Re: broken wrist

Not being able to play guitar is definately the worst part, I've sprained my ankle a couple of times and the doctors have said the same to me as they have said to you about your wrist, they didnt check to see if it was broken, just got me out as quickly as possible and told me to take pain killers and try and use it. The fact that it isn't better over 3 weeks should surely mean some damage has been done.

Hope it gets better in the next few weeks though, not being able to pick stuff up, let alone play guitar is annoying.

Re: broken wrist

Highsiding is definitely not the way you want to get off a bike. What were you riding?

Re: broken wrist

hmmm, I would prefer the lowside given the option....

nevertheless, not riding jap crotch rockets seriously extends the life expectancy of your wrists/elbows/shoulders/hips and just about anything else that sticks out when its time for...

earth/sky/earth/sky/earth/sky/earth......... hospital ceiling...
I also lost one very good buddy to a motorway bridge support
all this is not really compatible with playing guitar....

Jaden (sold my crotch rocket 6 years ago - kids huh)

it started life as a '92 Honda NSR250, then i found 'tyga performance' on t'internet and started throwing money at it...

its now a 300cc, 75hp (@ rear wheel), 115kg death trap with an RVF400 upside down fork, ohlins rear shock and its dripping in HRC racing parts!

Needless to say i now know why two stroke race bikes are considered difficult to get the best out of... Its quite powerful in the mid range but goes insane between 10 and 12000rpm, so i was just trying to get used to it (first time i'd ridden it after completing building it). Also cadwell park is very narrow and difficult to learn, it also includes 'the mountain' which becomes a jump if you take it fast enough! The BSB guys get fully airborn over it.

It rained really heavily when i was there and even though i'd switched to full wet tyres it spat me off going through hall bends. Very strange crash with no warning and happened extremely quickly. You go through hall bends on a fairly constant, partial throttle and i was a gear too high at the time so i don't honestly know what i did wrong.

Ban 'em!
