Re: Calling in (punishment?)

Well of course it can get you written up and inevitably fired, Ethan.

One or two times may be okay (depending on your employer, the excuse and the time inbetween) but if you continually call in, they will see a pattern. We always got rid of the "I'm full of excuses not to work" employees. Especially if you're on salary

Employers hire you to WORK!! Not to call in so THEY have to do your job.

Yea it can definately get you fired, unless you get a dr's note in which case there'll probably be something in your contract about sick leave.

i asking this because my friend is a stubborn little girl. (i know you can get written up, duh)

my friend thinks he can just call in as many times as he wants, and still keep his job. He works at a local albertsons. and he thinks just because he knows other people that call in sick a whole bunch of times, makes it so he can call in, and wont get written up for it. so sorry if i didnt mention my friend first.

oh yea, there are too many stereotypes in this forum. i mean, the quote :" you can't be really asian" is a stereotypical question. im not a genius. so why base my knowledge upon what race i am.

please cut the stereotypical comments to a minimum.
i hate stereotypes.

I see this at my work also, where a guys calls out (or is it in) a lot and another guy thinks he'll do the same, and then they fire him. The reason being, that even when he was there his work was less then par. So I think sometimes a manager will bend the policies for a good employee, but I would caution against it.
This can also have a direct negative effect on your wallet, come raise time!

Re: Calling in (punishment?)

if your friend thinks he can keep calling in sick... he either will and will get away with it. or he will get fired/warned and will learn his lesson. it's a win/win situation in a way so don't worry too much, it's his deal..

seriously, you don't see the irony in insulting somebody's intelligence in a way that makes people question your own?

I didn't take it that way at all. I think he meant Asian people typically have a very good work ethic, which the "friend" doesn't seem to have
