Complete face transplants on the horizon

http://www.cnn.com/2005/HEALTH/09/17....ap/index.html

I know some of you must despise me for always posting links to news sites, but I can't help this one. It's really fascinating, and worth a look.

It appears a brave doctor is ready to go forward with a new procedure to transplant the facial skin of a corpse onto a living patient - the would-be patient would be someone who suffers from terrible disfigurment.

This is bound to cause some backlash. I'd be interested to know what y'all make of it.

Re: Complete face transplants on the horizon

Makes me think of the John Woo movie "Face Off" from 1997 .

I think Keith wouldn't trade his face for anything. I doubt he wants to turn into Michael Jackson style freak.

Yes, it gives him a more 'rock 'n' roll' look.

I saw a show about this on the Discovery channel, a while back. If they can really get it to work, it would be incredible.

We had a case here where a child was born without eyelids (crack baby).
The surgeons decided to use the foreskin from the circumcision to create the lids.
I was kind of amazed that they thought of it, but it worked, the soft tissue was, I guess a perfect match.
