Conan and Leno, same joke.

Alright, I know that this isn't the coolest thing that you are ever going to have heard, but I have been watching Conan and Leno for years now, and I have never seen anything like this before. I always watch the first five minutes of Conan and Leno every night, because this is when they tell their jokes, up front. I watched Leno and noticed that he told a joke; "According to a poll taken by such and such, forty percent of Mexicans would like to come the USA, the number would actually be higher, but the other sixty percent are already here!"
An hour and a half later, I tuned into Conan, and aloe and behold, he told the same joke. Not just similar, but the exact same thing! Word for word. Just wondering if anybody else noticed this same thing. I have never noticed it before, as I am sure that they tell similar jokes sometimes, but not the exact same thing!

Maybe Conan is slowly preparing for taking over for Leno. He must now practice hard at not being funny so he can be ready for the job.

I don't find either of them particularly funny.

ahhh Conan is so much funnier than Leno and no they don't have the same writer's. Conan does a lot of writing as well as Leno, but Conan is obviosly funnier seeing as how he's written for the simpsons and worked as a writer on SNL for a few years back in the early 90's I think. I don't know about anyone else, but I can't wait till Conan takes over the Tonight Show, because I just don't find Leno funny, he comes off more annoying IMO

I completely agree, I love Conan and I can't stand Jay Leno - who I used to think was funny before he got that gig. I used to watch Letterman all the time, but he's lost me in the last few years so now I watch Adult Swin on the 'toon Network until Conan comes on. I just hope NBC doesn't ruin Conan when he takes over the Tonight Show.

I have a feeling if Conan takes over the Tonight Show, NBC will homoginize the show just like it is now, and make it bland enough to be safe and not offend anyone

Conan is just a funny guy, his monologues aren't much better than Leno's, but he is just a funny guy, and that doesn't get old.

Anyway, professional writers all have a sense of how best to present a certain angle, as that's what they do. The thing about the Mexican people's feelings towards the US was news in USA Today recently, so I would guess it's just coincidence that it came out word for word. I wish Conan was on a little earlier on the East Coast, though.
Chicago has Conan an hour earlier, AND better beer....it's not fair I tells 'ya!

I've seen them do that before, tell the same or close to the same jokes about current events. Conan's monologue is not his strong point. Conan is also cooler because he plays and loves guitars!
