Re: Do you visit Jemsite from a phone/smartphone

Visiting from an iPhone everyday. No problems but two "annoyances" : the buttons to directly go to the last read message in a thread, and the buttons to go to next pages are too small, so they require to zoom in quit a bit to be used, other than that it is allready very usable as is !

Cheers to all those responsible for the site !

I hate my cell phone and all other mobile communication devices. I so can't wait to give it up after the contract is done...

I do, and it doesn't look very great from my iPhone.

No Flash.

Re: Do you visit Jemsite from a phone/smartphone

I sometimes use my Nokia E71 to browse jemsite. It supports flash (but not the version jemsite uses?!). Besides that: it's no fun, neither are any other forums running the same or similar software. Blogs are ok, proper articles as well, but any forum feels very unwieldy on my phone.

My default setting for fast browsing is do not load images, they don't really add anything for me with forums.
So wat really bugs me is that simple, stupid, small icons ("new post", or emoticons , etc.) when not loaded, manage to mess up the layout of column and posts.
I can't say for sure the fault is with Jemsite, but the browser displays the title behind the image, which in the case of jemsite is a full list of all the tags assigned to a thread. Similarly, in the bottom right of a post there are three buttons:

[Reply with Quote] [Multi-Quote this message] [Quick Reply to this message]

you can imagine how much space each of these takes up...

If you're interested in pics from a smartphone that's NOT an iPhone I could post a screenshot but I don't currently have that app on my E71.

Re: Do you visit Jemsite from a phone/smartphone

eviltwin - if you can post screenshots that would be great. I agree the "alt" image tags are HIGHLY ANNOYING (as is much of any vBulletin or other similar theme) they should say only what the button does, no more.

I can tweak/remove the alt tags in main forum, forum topic list and thread if you have a few screenshots that will expedite... glen

Re: Do you visit Jemsite from a phone/smartphone

These eight screenshots show you in order,

first column (left) top to bottom:

1 front page after login, NOTE flash incompatible, can't say for sure if it is indeed outdated, youtube and such work fine.
2 new posts, all images loaded.
3 threads in forum, all images loaded.
4 reading a thread, all images loaded.

2, 3 and 4 show that forum use with images is ok, but as you're loading the layout changes.
A wider screen would obviously be better, or zooming out slightly, but that's just the E71 and my settings. That's got nothing to do with jemsite.

Without images however is another matter.

Second column (right) top to bottom:
5 same as pic2, tags/buttons mess up lay out, NO images loaded.
6 arbitrary post, tags/buttons mess up lay out, NO images loaded.
7 remainder of the same post, tags/buttons mess up lay out, NO images loaded.
8 advanced post, emoticons mess up lay out, NO images loaded.

NOTE black bands in pic4 are part of Symbian/Nokia browser.
NOTE scrollbars right and bottom are part of the Symbian/Nokia browser.
NOTE impossibly large tags in buttons, pics5 through 8.
NOTE pics 6 and 7 have a different zoom factor, as the buttons take up a lot of space. Even with 66.6% zoom they cannot fit onto the E71 screen (320x240).

Re: Do you visit Jemsite from a phone/smartphone

thanks. looks good with images (at 320pixels wide the "mobile alabama" "mobile web" style is really ideal). without images the ALT tags are brutal. I'll tweak them as imho they're highly annoying even flyover text is annoying.

your phone does NOT have full flash support (neither does iPhone)... glen

Re: Do you visit Jemsite from a phone/smartphone

Ok, i made edits on the highly offensive areas by using vBulletin alternate phrases. Please lemme know if i missed an alt tag or two.

i can NOT edit the page emoticons... shred can i have access to that? those are offensive in the "go advanced" reply as well as the main thread page.
