Re: Favorite (really really) old computer games?
Oh man this brings back memories! Elite on my friend's BBC Micro or Tim Loves Cricket on my Dragon 32! And any number of Spectrum games, including KnightLore, MatchDay2 and Manic Minor. I don't remember the name, but there was an ASCII based golf game I loved on a friend's ancient Tandy something or other.

Freelancer with the Freeworlds TC mod in particular. I don't really play games anymore. I started spending the time I used on games now on guitar.

Amen brother!!! They did however make another one in the series later with better graphics and features, and they have a community that tries to keep the game up to date!

Too many to name!
I was a big Commodore C-64 guy.
I still have two 128s a C and a D.
I also have two 1541 drives, two 1571 drive and two 1581 drives all with Jiffy Dos chips installed.
I must have 80% of the games ever made for the C-64.

The games I remember playing the most were Karateka and Castle Wolfenstein on my dad's locally made Apple II clone.
I also played Lode Runner, Bolo, Choplifter and Xonix and I'm sure I'm forgetting some games.
Not sure if the computer we had (Pravetz 8M) was reverse engineered or just cloned but it was 100% Apple II compatible and the monitor was green and black monochrome which seemed totally normal at the time.

Idk if this is old enough to be considered really really old.....
But I played OG red alert when I was little. Me and my brother loved that game!

Red alert was okay, I still prefer the original C&C though.
Speaking of old RTS, anyone remember Dune 2?

I 3rd this. X-Wing was such an amazing game. I played it at my friends house and we used to fight over who could beat certain insane missions first. My friend cheated all the time but I kept playing legit. The death star mission pissed me off to no end

Re: Favorite (really really) old computer games?
I'm going to date myself here...I too get excited when I see anyone talking about "BBS"!
I ran a very successful one here in Illinois for may years! Got enough donations to buy a USRobotics 9600 Baud modem when they first came out.
Anyone remember Telegard or Renegade? I still have the "C" source code for them!
Ran it off a 105MB HD at the time!
Sierra games where where it was at : Leisure Suit Larry, Space Quest, Kinds Quest!
Those were the days man. Being a SysOp, having a "Handle" - oh man...I still remember it like it was yesterday.
Anyone remember THG (The Humble Guys) - I became good friends with the one who programed and created "Intro Maker".
I could go on and on and on...

For true old school, Elite on the BBC micro. 32K and a whole universe to explore.
A little more modern, Syndicate and Syndicate Wars.
Final Fantasy VII and Deus Ex are old school to some but still fairly modern to some of us old guys
