Pantera - VDOP
KSE
Soilwork
Mine

The list really goes on and on...

As much as I love playing guitar, I don't really listen to a lot of guitar based stuff.

Steve Vai- anything
SRV- anything
Jeff Beck- Mostly the stuff where he's playing a strat, although blow by blow has some great LP tones, actually it's a tele fitted with humbuckers designed by seymour duncan.

Great call on that. his tones are great on that entire album.
i would also have to say:

1) jason becker / george lynch (for rhythm work.)
2) John Sykes (whitesnake/whitesnake)
3) Randy Rhoads solo on Tribute album
4) Jack Butler's tone in Crossroads
5) Yngwie: Trilogy album

....to name a few

Re: favorite tones

1 - Eric Johnson (Venus Isle)
2 - Al Di Meola (Elegant Gypsy)
3 - John Petrucci (Awake)
4 - Santana

I have been crazy about Petrucci's tone lately, but I've been getting pretty sick of it, and that's a shame since I just bought my first Mesa Boogie.

Re: favorite tones

Petrucci's tone has changed a lot through the years. I'm not too sure about the current state of his sound, but his tone on Awake and Images & Words is pure sex.

Re: favorite tones

in no particular order, and straight off the top of my head...

- mark knopfler (just about anything, but probably down to the waterline)
- robert cray (the solo on strong persuader - sounds like a wah set halfway)
- gary moore (oh pretty woman)
