Financial problems...

Well, not really. It's just that I REALLY wanna buy an RG550/570, and I need the money for it. My parent's refuse to help me (even though I said that I would pay them once I sold my Strat). My Strat and X V-Amp have been put up for sale. So far, only the X V-Amp has a buyer. In Malaysia, it's usually either 'MIA Fender or MIM (even the high-end Classic Series) at below RM1000 (that's about below $260).

So I'm planning to sell both my Classic 50's Strat and my (sniff) Line 6 Spider II amp for RM1700 (about $450). I bought the Spider II early this year. And with the money I (hopefully) get, I plan to buy the cheapest amp I could find and buy me a RG5xx (again, hopefully).

So what do you guys think? Good idea?

Dude, don't sell off stuff you dont have to, Earn the cash, Buy it that way, I learnt hard man, I have around £10,000 of debt to pay off and sold god knows how many guitars in the last 5 years. I'm back to work now, and it's going to cost me a fortune to get all my stuff bought and paid for again.

Re: Financial problems...

I would work to get it, but unfortunately the age limit for working here is 16. My father did make a deal with me. The deal was that if I got high marks in my exams I can get a new guitar. But the condition was to sell my guitar, and the new guitar should cost under RM2000 (about under $500). So you can see that I'm better off selling my guitar. I'm really desperate. There have been many songs I've tried to play but realised that I don't have the features on my guitar to play it (i.e frets aren't enough, or my bridge is non-floating). The sad thing is, I couldn't get this off my mind. I went (literally) crazy this afternoon over this. I saw this 12 year old kid who had just been playing for a year receive a PRS Singlecut for his birthday. It's not like my family is poor (we're doing quite well, actually), but there's just no reasoning with my parents. I just snapped it this afternoon. I was crying and moaning (my brother pointed out that the moaning was eerie). I was lucky that I didn't get the knife or cleaver (which I have been known to do ever since I was 9). Maybe I should relax. But I just can't bear to think that I'd never play Van Halen or Vai tunes due to the lack of features on my guitar.

Re: Financial problems...

My suggestion is to keep the guitar and amp. Try an alternative method to get half the cash you need and then sell your guitar to get the rest of the cash later. No point selling your amp 'cause in the long rung you're cutting yourself short.

Listen to 'Jem7rb mk' because any gear you sell only to end up buying again is pointless. Think of the time between now and the day you get a 550/570 as time spent working on chops and trying to figure out creative methods to do stuff on the guitar. (I mean hey, just because Steve Vai used an Ibanez Universe to play 'for the love of god' doesn't mean you can't do it on a strat or a les paul).

Re: Financial problems...

Improvise. Sometimes no matter how much you want it you just can't have the tool you need due to financial constraints, it's just the way it goes. And if you don't currently have the tool you think you need, then make do with the one you have and squueze as much out of it as possible. So instead of selling and not having, maybe try saving and finding alternate ways.

To be honest I think that not always getting what you want is a good lesson for later in life.

Re: Financial problems...

It's not really getting what I want, it's more like getting what I need.

Yeah, I reckon that I should hold on to my gear for the time being. But my parents are refusing me to lower the price of my Strat (I'd be happy to get a used RGT42). Oh well...

Re: Financial problems...

Well I think your parents are teaching you a good life lesson and they're saying it's time to grow up. They are teaching you that in life you don't get things for free. You'll appreciate this when you are older. Trust me, I went through the same thing and when you get what you were wanting you will savour and appreciate it that much more.

It's not worth having a tantrum over as you are just showing them that you are still a child. Reason with them like an adult and they will treat you like an adult. Maybe they will make things easier for you too to get what you are after.

Forget about the 12 year old with the PRS. They wont appreciate it and will probably just trash it anyway. Your parents' wont buy the "but he got a PRS, why aren't you giving me what I want".

I know it sounds harsh but it's the real world. You will appreciate it all a lot more in a few years time I think.

Re: Financial problems...

if you sell your stuff .... What will be the price ?
But i suggest you to pratice not sell everything , its not because you will have a edge bridge or a lo-pro that you skill in guitar will be better , or that you will be able to play more song ....na it will only depend on you . But if you want to sell , Tell us the prices ....

Sorry to hear that. Earn it. If you want the guitar bad enough, you will.

I do get money at our 'Hari Raya' Aidilfitri. Though we usually don't get much. Yeah, I think it's an important lesson too, to be patient. I really didn't recover from my fit when I first posted. Anyway, someone has considered to trade their 550 for me, so hopefully everything goes well. Well, thanks anyawys guys.

Re: Financial problems...

I wouldn't even trade to be honest. I'd learn to play the hell out of what you've got and then when you can do that then get the RG or whatever you want.

To be honest I got my first guitar and sat there playing it as much as possible through a really ****ty amp, and loved it. Since then I've slowly squirrelled together a collection of guitars, and each one I've had to work for, save for, or come up with mad ideas to buy.

All in all each one is special because of that and are ones I won't sell. So I'd advise just to wait it out. It'll only be that musch sweeter when you finally get it!
