Funny Hard Rock Cafe stuff

Ever go to a Hard Rock Cafe and see stuff on the walls that doesn't make sense? For instance, I was in one yesteray and saw a low end Jackson guitar signed by Elton John. When did Elton John play a Jackson? I also saw a cheapo Washburn signed by Carlos Santana.

Most of the things HRC displays are killer. But some just make you scratch your head.

Go take a look at the stuff in the Vegas branch...man that's mish -mash of things.
There's the Vai "eyes" Jackson on one wall (in the gift shop) and there's also some total crap floating around in there. About 50% cool and 50% plain crap.

Re: Funny Hard Rock Cafe stuff

In Boston, there's a Gibson Explorer signed by Stevie Ray Vaughn... of course, the general public really doesn't care as long as they see the sig of someone they've heard of on ANY instrument.

Though not actually at the Hard Rock, did anyone see the 7-string Squire Stagemaster signed by George Harrison in a display case going for $5000 on the 'bay? Pretty much the same kind of grievous mismatch.

Yeah. I love the $99 guitars with the signatures asking like $1,000. Crazy.

Re: Funny Hard Rock Cafe stuff

The Hard Rock gets its memorabilia primarily in three ways:

1 - Actual things donated [or even sold] by the artists.
2 - Actual things bought from reputable dealers, etc.
3 - Whatever they can get their hands on to have signed by artists [backstage; at press conferences; meet-n-greets, etc.]

#3 is how you see unrelated, low-budget gear with top names on 'em.

/Used to be a busser/server/manager at the Newport Beach, CA HRC.
//Coolest thing we had: '60s era, handwritten note from Clapton to a buddy in prison.
