Have you ever found out the meaning of a song... and been put off by it?

I was just listening to 'In a Darkened Room' by Skid Row and what an amazing song it is, but I remember hearing the song was actually about pedophiles and child abuse. I don't know, it sort of made me feel bad listening to it for some reason.

I just listened to again as I'm posting this and it's cool if I block out the lyrics.

Urgh, horrible. Has the true meaning (the artist's idea of the true meaning) ever made you think WTF? and put you off the song?

On the flip side of the coin, hearing that The Darkness's 'Growing on me' is actually about getting 'the clap' is pretty funny

Not by a song that I can remember...

However I remember hearing someone from Pearl Jam explaining the meaning.. or one of the meanings of the name of the band as they saw it & why they used the name & I called them the Eddie Vedder band from that point on

Yeah...... I think the theory was to hear girls screaming for it (knowingly or otherwise) at the shows would be funny

That never occurred to me (don't think I gave it much thought) but I've just re-read the lyrics - that's nasty but a powerful song as a result.

Exactly!! And obviously if the song affects people as such, then they (Skid-Row) did it right

It's not a "silver lined" world out their Davey (as you well know) and a lot of realities can be quite depressing.

Yeah that's true. Sort of crazy though when you think it's just a random rock ballad and it turns out to be something completely different.

And yeah Skid Row are awesome! One of my favourite bands of all time

One of the things I like about Dream Theater. Most there songs seem to be meaningless. The words are just a vehicle to give the singer something to do. Not all there songs. My all time favorite band.

Hmm....I find it odd that you would say that Darin. Ever listen to "Images and Words"?? EVERY song on that album brings forth a very deep well thought out message and story
