Is the cannon power shot s5 is 8.0mp a good camera. I am looking at it for a gift for a friend, she wants to start into digital. She allready has a Nikon slr with all the gadgets and lenses. Is the cannon a good start for getting into digital. She doesn't need a digital slr at this point. thanks chef 21

i don't like any bulky point/shoot camera. first and foremost is travel-ability and "fit in your pocket or pocketbook" for this.

canon is a no-brainer here as the elph line is fantastic and the first place to start looking. any larger physical size i'd get a cheap (canon) dSLR as that is a whole other level. for dslr search for a few recent threads... glen

The Canon S5 is a super nice camera for anyone who doesn't need or want an SLR.
