Hexadecimal numbers

I'm looking for some clever chap or chapette to help me out here

Basically can someone explain to me in layman's terms how the hell you convert hexadecimal numbers to decimal? It probably sounds easy for the folks that know how but if you don't it's hell on earth.

If I can suss it out I'm on easy street.

Cheers!

Dave

If you just need to do a conversion, try this:

Re: Hexadecimal numbers

Thanks mate

Can anyone simplify it for me to do it manually? It's just that in my exam I won't have access to a converter.

Re: Hexadecimal numbers

Easy to demonstrate, hard to do in a post! Here goes:

Write out the number spread out a bit. Above that write out what each column means (1's, 16's, 256's etc right to left) like you did at school with 1's, 10, 100's etc when working out decimal. Concert each column to decimal as per the table in that website and write that down below. Multiply top and bottom rows and write that down below. Add that whole row up, job's a good'un.
