i got the job!
well after 3 weeks of waiting i got a 2nd interview today. again i had to hear we have to make a decision, there are other candidates, blah blah blah. i really like these guys and the HR guy was really cool throughout the entire process.
long story short, 2 hours after the interview on the way home (i took the day off work) i got the call saying i got it! they didn't want me to get away and offered me the job today! i'm so excited and yet nervous, as anyone would be in a new job. you don't really know what to expect till you're there and i hate that! i start the 31st. it's in the same industry; pc tech stuff, and yet, more pay. that is why i went for it.....it's really stale where i'm at now. we're all jumping ship at the current grind.
i'm really happy. i never luck out. i'm working till the end of the week and i'm gone...3 days notice. taking a week off. i feel bad doing it but you know, this place put me through so much hell in the last 4 years....and never a raise. you may remember my last thread where starting salary is $10k more than what i'm making....i'm not even at industry standard.....now i am. it's not like i didn't give them a chance. i have been asking and trying to advance in other positions for the last 6 months......it's over now. i break the news tomorrow. seeeeeee ya!!

Re: i got the job!
Good for you - I'm in a similar boat in the tech world - 5 yrs of hell and no raises, but I'm in the process of finding something more rewarding.

Re: i got the job!
do it dude! and good luck to ya. here is a site that may be able to help you out regardless of where you are at or what career you are looking for! the last 3 people to use it (me, my dad, and my friend) all got jobs in the last 3 weeks after using this! all the job sites filter through it...monster, careerbuilder, etc. the cool thing is....you don't have to sign up! just search and submit your resume online to the jobs you want!!

Hey JJEMMER777, what site are you talking about? Thanks!
Shredmaster, don't even worry about it, like you said they had their chance & not only that, they've been screwing you for years anyway. Most of these companies will do whatever they have to do, even if that means getting rid of you/us yesterday! I wouldn't show up tomorrow or ever again for the right position.

Re: i got the job!
Congrats on the new job! That's definitely positive progress.
If I don't quit my pressure cooker of a job soon, I'm gonna bust a blood vessel!
Hope things are looking up on the domestic front since the tragic loss of your father in-law a few months ago.
Best wishes,
~ Scott

Re: i got the job!
You always hear that employers will pay just enough so you won't quit, and employees will work just hard enough not to get fired, it's really nice to hear you finally getting ahead, getting what you deserve, and getting some satisfaction. So for real, how sweet was it to quit your old no raise for four years job?!

Re: i got the job!
Scott / Screamjem, thank you for your thoughts. my father-in-laws passing is not as rough as it was, although it still comes and goes...last night was one of them. would have been nice to walk in and tell him...hey dad, i got that job! he would have been extatic. i know he knows but it isn't the same. i really miss him and anyone here who could have had a chance to meet him would understand. he was so cool and just down-to-earth. i miss having someone to make fun of people with. i'm not much of a drinker and he would make fun of me if there was some left in the bottle. now when i rarely have a drink i make sure it's gone.
i'm excited on this new job and waiting on the email confirmation from the new job that i got it...i mean, i did get it, verbally on the phone yesterday. you understand.
Gilk, it is pretty sweet! i'm so happy, although nervous of course. i don't want to leave my crew. i love these guys. it would ALMOST be as if i worked with a bunch of you (well maybe bad example since that would be way more fun but you know what i mean) but management is screwing me. then i found a job that pays more...what do you do? well as my wife and friend here at work said......screw them! friday is your last day! so i start the 31st of july and this friday will be it...3 days notice. 1 week off. i feel bad but they wouldn't feel bad for me if they got me first. also, it's not like i'm burning bridges. i have all the references i need for the future. they deserve what they got and they had their chance. life is too short. after i build my savings up a bit and photography gets larger, i may leave this new place after 2 years.....who knows. i may be there for 10, who knows. think of yourself and family first.
i'm going to make my rounds and let people know today. when the executives find out that i'm leaving they're going to be p'd to say the least! and they hold the cards for keeping this company on as a contract company (the co. that is screwing me and my team.) they have not been too happy with them anyway. THAT WILL BE SWEET.
so again, i'm happy....i'm an uncle, i'm finally turning the financial boat around after struggling for the last 4 years. i hope it goes well, as anyone would think when starting a new job. i will be on call since it's a 24/7 365 operation but since i'm in the lower level tech spot i won't be on that much. that's good since i don't want it to interfere with my photography stuff on weekends.
JJEMMER777, how is your new gig?
thanks again guys.
steve

It's goin Awesome!! Cool boss (if you can believe that)
Um...serious scenery all around the office "wink" "wink"
And the kicker "NO STRESS"!!!!! This place RULES!!!
A lot of you said it and you were right. Me getting laid off was a blessing in disguise!! I'm so happy with my job now, I almost don't know how to handle it
Again, if your not happy in your current job....
Look
around! There's always something better and don't be afraid to take that step and make a change. I was scared to death! Now I'm happy as could be
Not a bad idear to just put your resumes out on the pre-mentioned sites (monster, etc) just for the sake of doing it. There could always be the possiblity of greener pastures.
Again...congrats shred
