Ibanez color picker program project
I've been learning a lot of actionscript in Flash the past year, even though i've been using it on and off since Flash 5... and I'm considering on making a universal color picker for an RG style guitar for a project i can work on my spare time... Jem/UV/7-strings included... now before I go off spending countless hours for such a project [since I'm only going to put this in my portfolio], I need considerations from most, if not, everyone regarding what to include: colors, pickguards, matching headstock, logo markings, and pickup scheme's, whatever... I might start off with these basic factors:
1) stained wood tops / neon colors / and an ibanez fav: 20 textures of black (hah!) / with or without
monkey grip
.
2) p/u configurations - i'll limit myself to Dimarzio's and within their color scheme, without or with pickguard + pickguard material
3) knobs: plastic vs metal vs gibson vs whatever comes around (skull knobs?)
4) neck: fretboard / regular + reverse / inlays
i know this sounds alot to ask (even for myself) but i can start building each new suggested scheme once I get a general consensus... i know it's not an impossible project but i'll pick the 5 most popular options for each factor. i'll also need opinions regarding what other functionalities I should include/consider. I might also need help with attaining certain assets: dimensions, logo in vector, whatever... anyone who can help will be credited. If all goes well, I'll expand it as far as possible... maybe include the S style bodies

And what would be so hard about it?

I'm just saying if you think it would be hard for you then maybe you should concentrate and the UI and get a programmer to do the rest, it's honestly 15 mins work for any decent IT guy.

cut the guy a break man
he didn't say it'd be hard but that's beside the point, it'll be a cool project he wants to do, time it takes is irrelevant and not many have done it before anyway. deserves support imo..
there's only really the kisekae one out there(hope you've checked it out for reference) so it'll be a great addition if it can offer a little more specifically for ibanez fans, i'd certainly use it for designing my building projects if it's good

Re: Ibanez color picker program project
Option of with or without Lions claw on them all seems to have been missed :P
For future maybe add in the ability for people to import finishes in, that seems to be pretty popular on the Kisekae one.
Oh and a way so you can better match the headstock finish to the body, its a pain getting it just right on the other one

Re: Ibanez color picker program project
Proper JEM777 pyramid inlays!
thats the one thing that annoys me about the Kisekae'ish guitar design programs.
Good luck with it and I hope you get it working!

Re: Ibanez color picker program project
A reverse-headstock option would be nice.
I've been hoping someone would make something like this for a long time, since the kisekae one never seems to satisfy without taking it into photoshop.
Best of luck with this, I'd love to see it when it's finished.

and how many IT guys, who are Ibanez nuts, do ya know can do said project in 15 minutes and looks good? there'd be 1351351909 project guitar programs online. I have 2 database programmer friends and i'm sure they can figure it out if they weren't doing their full-time jobs... to sit down and discuss a project can take a day or a few weeks, this is before the coding part begins. The coding part is mind-boggling for others to read and requires thinking before the actual "work" is put in... i mean I can think of 200 lines of code within a day for my project... but if I can simplify the same commands into <50 lines of code, then all the "hard work" is diminished to a few minutes.
Plus... I wanna gain the learning experience
Anyhow, I'll keep this thread updated when I begin a "draft" version...

You're making a mountain out of a mole hill but if you want to do it that way then good luck.

Re: Ibanez color picker program project
what other way is there to do it though Crev? apart from outsourcing it, because he wants to do it himself.

Re: Ibanez color picker program project
The way it is soundig is that it's some sortof huge progect when it just isn't, if you think it is then you probly shouldn't be attempting it or at least not taking it too seriously because it will most likely fail or be very poorly designed.
