Some friends of mine recently went to have a picture of their family restored and were told that because the picture was taken by Olan Mills, that it could not be duplicated or restored.
Due to the fact that when Olan Mills & almost all photographers now own the copyrights to the pictures they take and have taken in the past.
On another note. Some friends of ours have a daughter who is graduating, and when she took her pictures they were asked if they wanted to buy ownership of the pictures? Which meant they could take the pictures to anyone and have them developed. If they did not purchase the rights, then they would only own the package of pictures they purchased from the photographer.
