It's time for a new digital camera....
Ok, so I'm about to ditch my sony 5.1 MP camera after having it since 2002. I would like to get a high quality one. I'm not even sure what is the highest MP available today, but I definitely need a cam to take high resolution, detailed pictures for my website.
The one thing I don't like about digital cameras is that it takes too long from the time you press the snapshot button and the camera actually completing the picture until you're ready to take the next one. With traditional cameras, you're able to quickly take another picture right after you took the previous one.
Are there any digital cameras on the market right now that can take quick pictures without the annoying delay in between? So many times I've wanted to take pictures of my daughter doing things but my camera wasn't fast enough to take the next picture which sucks. I need a camera that takes lets you take fast pictures without the delay so I can capture the moments I want, when I need them. My 5.1 MP camera takes too long, by the time it is ready for the next picture, the moment is gone already. At least it still works, but the quickness and quality is not acceptable anymore.
I need suggestions on a high MP camera, and if there are any cameras without the annoying delays I've mentioned......

Get the Canon Rebel DSLR:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...i_Digital.html
Amazing kit for under $800, shoots super fast and even shoots 1080p High Definition. I use the 5D Mark II, but bought this for my mother & sister inlaw and they absolutely love it. One of the best cameras for the money on the market today in my opinion.

Cool thanks for the information. I was just reading up on types of cameras and I see that the DSLR type of camera is what I need.
I'll definitely take a look at the one you suggested, 1080P is something I didn't expect either, but very very cool.............

maybe you need the body i shoot with listen to the shutter speed @ 10fps ROTF

what exactly are you shooting?
it sounds like your
digital camera
is quite old as any newer dc will have little shutter lag and any dSLR will have virtually none. I like the dRebels myself for those who want digital SLR. But depending on your budget & specific needs there are many choices. For website work i'd consider the Canon G11 which is a rock-solid point/shoot with slightly larger than point/shoot sensor and many manual controls... glen

I like taking pictures of my 2.5 yr old daughter when she isn't looking, she does things out of the blue and there has been so many moments where I wanted to take a lot of pictures one after the other in a quick way, but my camera is so slow that the moment is already gone and it's too late, and on top of that, the quality of the ones I took turn out blurry and crappy. It takes long enough to wait for it to focus before I can actually take the picture, and then takes more time to flash, and then there is a brief moment where it shows a preview of what I just took, and then it is ready for the next picture.
I also need to take high res pictures of the products I am selling, to put on my website. I see that cameras under $1000 have gone up to 15 MP which is a far advancement from my crappy 5 MP. My budget is probably up to the $850 range, which could get me a nice DSLR camera, a huge step up from my old one for sure.
I like the fact that with DSLR's you can swap out lenses for different effects, and you're not stuck with one like on the point and shoot cameras.
I checked out the Canon T1 Rebel DSLR, and it looks like a winner. The reviews are good and the price is within my budget. If I don't find anything else that can match this one in terms of specs and for the same price or lower, I just may end up with it.

Re: It's time for a new digital camera....
these threads appear every few months here...
the shutter lag you talk about is commonplace on older digital cameras. i bought my wife a Canon Rebel T1i in june & it's a good body... great features at a good price (~$725). The rebels (like the cheaper nikons below Dxxx series) are a little small for my hands ergonomically though.
The best part of the T1i is that it's not at all crippled like many cheaper dSLRs are (older canon rebels like XSi don't go past iso1600 & other brands too). It is a no brainer at that price however you will want a decent lens to go with it. It has more features then the pricier 50D (slightly bigger body, little better AF system but no video).
If you don't need video i'd consider a refurb or clearout Canon EOS-40D if you can find them. adorama had them for $650 for the longest time but none now. That was a steal .. glen

Re: It's time for a new digital camera....
I'm set on getting the Canon Rebel Ti 500D, but I'm stuck on which lens kit to get. Right now, there are sellers on the bay who are selling it with lense kits and other goodies. One package has the Canon 15-55mm IS, Tamron 75-300mm telephoto zoom.
Another package has the Tamron 28-80mm, and Tamron 75-300mm telephoto
Another has the Caon 15-55mmIS, Canon 75-300mm telephoto, and Canon 50mm (all Canon)
I've been looking on the net for reviews on these lenses. Overall, I feel that both are getting the same balance of reviews. Some praise them, while others think its just ok, and then others that tell you to get something else.
I don't have the funds right now to unload on the expensive glass like the USM's, and L's.
I just can't decide whether to go all canon lenses (the ones included in the auctions), or the split packages that have the canon 15-55mm and Tamron 75-300, OR to go with the all Tamron lens package.
I know these lenses are the cheap ones, but which package do you think is the best??
I will be mainly taking still life photos (for my website), and indoor portraits of family and friends, some HD video...............then maybe some outdoor stuff whenever I'm out and about with the camera (the least of my photography needs right now)
I'm also going to get a photography strobe flash light kit (one umbrella, one softbox) for good lighting indoors.

Re: It's time for a new digital camera....
My 2 cents...
If budget allows you should get a Sigma 17-70mm and a Canon 50mm 1.8.
The 17-70 has a nice range, is sharp and has decent macro ability which would be good for product shots. The only lens that competes with the Sigma in that price range is the Tamron 17-55mm 2.8. It's a very nice lens but doesn't have the same macro ability.
The 50mm 1.8 will be good for people photos and blurring backgrounds with it's fast 1.8.
For a tele zoom on a budget I would go with the Tamron 55-200mm f/4-5.6. It's small, light and gets good reviews.

Even though these lenses are inexpensive they are not bad. Even the 18-55mm Kit lens is more capable than a lot of the "photographers" that will tell you it's junk.

Re: It's time for a new digital camera....
you should be able to find a good price on the T1i w/o kits then buy your own lens. that will be the most cost effective
don't get a kit with 28- lens unless it's canon brand. That is too long a focal distance for crummy lens (28mm x 1.6 crop = 45mm film equivalent). plus you can get real canon usm zooms like 28-105usm or 28-135usm for quite cheap with faster/lower apertures.
the canon 18-55is a decent, inexpensive $50 kit lens. the original 18-55 non-IS kit lens (there are several variations of the kit lens) is very flimsy but better than nothing & can get good photos if you avoid flare, etc. Still not a lens i'd want on my camera most of the time so i'd again pass on the kit and buy a better general purpose lens instead.
i don't use ef-s lenses but rotti's suggestions are good, especially given what you posted & want to shoot.
you can get a general feeling for the cheaper zoom lenses at the fm review area, especially if there are many reviews.

a great canon review/reference site is below but they don't review the cheaper ef-s glass.

Re: It's time for a new digital camera....
Well, I finally bit the bullet and got the rebel T1i with the 2 canon 1 tamron lens kit. I know these are cheap lenses, but I couldn't turn down all the stuff it came with which I needed.....like the cases, extra battery, wide angle lens, UV filters, remote, and a bunch of other stuff. Besides, my wife also wanted this one too, so I couldn't convince her to get just the body and a better lens
Even though the lenses are cheap lenses, I'm sure I'll be more than happy with them for now considering the piece of junk Sony I've been using for the past 8 years. I guess every beginner starts out this way, but it's nice to know I can always upgrade to a better lens kit later when I can afford it.
I will keep in minds the one you and Rotti mentioned. Thanks for the info on them and helping me to narrow things down enough.
Photography is like music gear........it can get expensive in a real hurry. I feel like I just bought a real nice guitar
