Re: Jemsite Photography Contest #2 - NATURE Category
these photos thus far are very good... much better overall than the people
the photoshopping vs film developing argument is very thin however.
at least 3 of the photos in this thread are heavily photoshopped (they're obvious as they look unnatural - not like photos but like digital fx)
aside from adjusting exposure or doing a chemical "sepia" you can't do very much with film as opposed to "photoshop" which can blur, enhance certain colors, blend/blur, etc.
K said she'd allow minor adjustment, i would allow transforming to black/white if that was something you intended when shooting.
but with photoshop you can take a f22 aperature and make it look like f2.8 with simple masking... glen

Title of Picture
= Thanksgiving Day
2.)
Your first name, last initial
= Tim C.
3.)
Approximate date of picture
= Thanksgiving Day 2005
4.)
A detailed explanation from PHOTOGRAPHIC STANDPOINT (include equipment, aperature/shutter/focus)
= Minolta Dimage Z1...Just used the auto setting...point,zoom,click.
5.)
A detailed explanation from an ARTISTIC STANDPOINT (include what you were aiming to capture, where the picture was shot, why you captured it, etc.)
= This might seem kind of morbid, but last Thanksgiving we had just polished off our Turkey and fixings. When I stepped out my front door to get a little air, and looked in the tree to my right. and found these Buzzards hanging out up there....slightly creepy....but I found them unusual so I grabbed the camera..and click...they flew away shortly after.
I know this isn't any great photo, but thought the story was weird enough to throw up here..

Re: Jemsite Photography Contest #2 - NATURE Category
I upped the saturation by a minor amount (which, by the way, can be done on the camera's own settings) and added a black border, but if you really want it disqualified for having it 'heavily photoshopped' then it's gone, I'll upload another one later on. I want to stress though, that that is not by any means 'heavily photoshopped'; it's a single layer JPEG that's had a minor saturation tweak. Heavy photoshopping would be something like HDR.
And, by the way, I checked specifically to see if there was any mention of photoshopping in the OP...there isn't any. You might want to go back and change that, Katrina, just to make sure no one makes the same mistake.
I'll go delete my other post just now, I'll upload another non-photoshopped image later on tonight.
:edit:
By the way, in post #23, I was simply suggesting that kennydoe make use of Photoshop at some point...I wasn't saying that he should re-do it and post it in the thread, or implying that either of his pictures were photoshopped.

Which 3, may I ask? There was mine, and the spider one (which also had a saturation tweak, like mine, only the saturation in that was decreased, whereas in mine it was increased) but there's nothing else obviously unnatural, or fake looking.

= The photo is from a Geology/Archaeology field trip I went on with my class last winter. Its from the Isle of Arran. A very small island just off of the Scottish coast. It was winter, and it was VERY cold. But the trip was amazing, life-changing things I saw. Once in a lifetime. This was a cave we studied, and quite unique I think you'll agree.

Alrighty then, here's my unedited "Big Ass Spider". I cropped it closer for a better view. I still like the desaturated one better though.

Re: Jemsite Photography Contest #2 - NATURE Category
To me, the photo of the waterfall is still the coolest photo. But, "Sun storm" is very special because of the sun between the clouds and the mountains. And the photo of the sunset at new year's eve is really beautiful too. And so are all the other photo's. But the waterfall, to me, stands out.
Kind regards,
Myst and rain

1.) Title of Picture: And God smiled...
2.) Your first name, last initial: Raimond J.
3.) Approximate date of picture: September 9, 2006
4.) A detailed explanation from PHOTOGRAPHIC STANDPOINT (include equipment, aperature/shutter/focus): Nikon D50 w/28-80 zoom, exposure 1/250, aperture 10, focal length 28mm
5.) A detailed explanation from an ARTISTIC STANDPOINT: Heading south on the 1, from Carmel to L.A., I was hoping to find some great spot to stop and enjoy the scenery. It turned out to be a cool and gray day, so it seemed my plan was shot. All of a sudden coming around a bend, the sky opened, the sun appeared, and this beautiful bay was before me...

The Struggle

April 2005
Taken with Canon 300D using Sigma 70-300mm APO.
I saw watching this poor guy with a damaged wing trying to stay alive.

Re: Jemsite Photography Contest #2 - NATURE Category
Here's another submission. I'm no pro with apertures and f-stops but my Powershot takes care of most of it on a nice day.
