Laptop health issue...

I read this on Wikipedia the other day.

"A study by State University of New York researchers says heat generated from laptops can significantly elevate the temperature of the scrotum, potentially putting sperm count at risk. The study, which included more than two dozen men ages 13 to 35, found that the sitting position required to balance a laptop can raise scrotum temperature by as much as 2.1°C. Heat from the laptop itself can raise the temperature by another 0.7°C, bringing the potential total increase to 2.8°C. However, further research is needed to determine whether this directly affects sterility in men."

Yikes!

Re: Laptop health issue...

I have my laptop on my lap all the time. Perhaps I should see a doctor, just to be sure.

Re: Laptop health issue...

If there is any effect at all, it would likely be temporary. More significant is the fact that most laptops, despite the name, are not meant to be placed on the lap. Modern are laptops are powerful enough that they can overheat and be permanently damaged if the vents on the bottom are covered.

Re: Laptop health issue...

personally I prefer Irradiating my B****ks with a mobile phone whilst driving, but now I know about the laptop gig, I guess there's no need for the large carbon footprint.

Seriously off-topic stuff is great, but can we please post links to academic papers if we want to cite facts rather than anecodotal stuff. Let's face it, that's how we would approach information pertaining to guitar issues, otherwise we may as well just tell wickipedia that the best Jem ever manufactured is the lower cost & environmentall friendly 555....reduced lead content clear coat and re-cycled poopa scoopa vine inlay!

+1

I think any laptop you buy has a warning about risk of serious burns from keeping the laptop on your lap.

Laptops should be thought of more as portable computers. They are meant to be used on level surfaces that allow proper ventilation, like a table. No part of the human body should be classified as a table (except in the case of the naked people you can eat sushi off, why not!).

Yes, I read about that. I don't want to become infertile. Thankfully, I don't own a laptop.
