Linux is so close to being good....
I've been using the newest version of Ubuntu for a couple of days now. It installs easily. Runs smooth, looks great. There are just a couple of annoying problems with it. No support for things like my pantone huey monitor calibration tool. Java doesn't work with 64bit Ubuntu. HD movie playback is not so good. This is just what I've noticed so far.
There may be some work arounds for some of these things but I'm not a programmer and I just don't have the time or interest in learning to write scripts or whatever.
Anyway it's too bad cause Ubuntu is so nice in a lot of ways.

I agree, the state of HDDVD and BluRay is pretty sad at the moment. I use Fedora as my desktop os most of the time, but there always seems to be a reason why I need to have a windows install along side.

Your spelling of Linux is _so_ close to being correct. And your review is _this_ close to actually being useful.

It wont take much more advancement though for something like Ubuntu to be a viable altenative to Windows for the average joe. One thing that irks me are the tutorials I see online. Most of them assume you have some Linux experience.

Your probably right. I guess what I meant is that it looks very close to being an easy to use mainstream type product.

I'm sorry, someone had to say something.
For what it is, Ubuntu is incredible.

Yes, one of the reasons I like Jemsite is because there are not many people like him. Anyway I managed to uncompress and install a program using termnial last night. It looks intimidating but is really a lot like DOS was back in the day. Just a matter of knowing the different comands and stuff.

Can I install Dolphin on Ubuntu? I think I saw a bunch of KDE apps in the packet manager including Dolphin.

Re: Linux is so close to being good....
I really like and recommend ubuntu.
the synaptic package manager is probably my favourite thing about it. Plus its incredibly stable, which is great cause i use the server edition to run my 48 cpu cluster and have had no down time 12 cpu years (ie three-four months ago).
ubuntu studio looks like alot of fun and I keep meaing to check out ardour... anyone try it out yet?

I love Compiz-Fusion, so much fun; by far my favorite feature of having a Linux distro. Wubi is great too.
