Muscles on the movie 300
Ive been having this fight with my mom. she has been thinking that the muscles in the movie are fake. that they are computer generated.
Is this true???

Re: Muscles on the movie 300
When 300 came out here they had something on the news about it being TOTALLY computer generated so i guess your mom could be right, anyway i haven't seen it yet so i don't know, but from the trailers i've seen its hard to determine whether it is CG or not. If it is CG they did one excellent job with it.

Re: Muscles on the movie 300
The muscle was legitimate. The cast was put through an extensive training regimen at this place:

Here's a link to some of their training:

Re: Muscles on the movie 300
Ridiculous movie. Action sequences were highly derivative, portrayal of the Persians was historically preposterous, extremely BORING between the 2 or 3 fight scenes, 2+ hour long U.S. Marines commercial gone awry.

Re: Muscles on the movie 300
Well, contrary to BigShred's opinion, I really liked the movie. Sure, it's not even close to being historically accurate (then again, almost nothing in the movie world ever is), but I found everything to fit in excellently. As for the muscles, I know everyone went through the training course, but I'm pretty sure the 8-packs were computer generated. One of my friends read that somewhere (yeah, how reliable, right?), but I'm pretty sure that's how it went down.

Re: Muscles on the movie 300
What a load of crap! I am no expert on the subject matter, but they looked pretty d*** real to me.
Heeheehee, I'm not seriously mad, but I doubt they were pixel enhanced. Is it so hard to believe that actors like Brad Pitt (Troy) and Angelina Jolie (Tomb Raider) go to great lengthes to prepare for a role? If I made that kind of money I'm sure I would work out a hell of a lot more, too.
Ok, I had my little tirade. I feel much better now. And I loved the movie.

Re: Muscles on the movie 300
I could have easily pictured all the actors running around with greenscreens taped to their abdomens during filming.
BTW, regarding any historical inaccuracies, keep in mind the movie's source material was Frank Miller's graphic novel (which tells the story as heavily stylized myth), not Herodotus the historian. I have no idea why, out of all the war movies out there, this one gets picked on for taking the same liberties with history that other movies take.

The problem is that most history is written by the winners.

Jesus. A majority was fake, but there are times where you can see the actors have SOME tone.

Sure Braveheart was a highly embellished telling of William Wallace's tale. But they didn't cast Jackie Chan as William Wallace now did they? In Gladiator they didn't cast Denzel Washington as Marcus Aurelius either.
This movie "300", or the graphic novel it was based upon, are not simply cases of taking "liberties" with history that other movies take. It was blatant absurdity to cast Xerxes as a 9' tall Dennis Rodman-like hermaphrodite. Also, the Persians were portrayed Arabesque while the Spartans were portrayed as "White". Hmmmmm I wonder why THAT was done hmmm. Give me a break. The reason is obvious.
Historically, the Spartans would have resembled modern day Sicilians and the Persians (whom at that time were Medes) would have resembled modern day Slavs and other East Europeans with white skin, dark brown to blonde hair and a high frequency of blue and green eyes.
Anyways, IMHO this thread should be moved to "Off-Topic".
