Must Have Blu-Ray Titles
So after months of research and saving I am looking at getting a new TV and Blu-Ray player in a few weeks.
TV:
http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/d...LN46A650A1FXZA
Player:
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Panas...oductDetail.do
Of course I am going to need a few movies. So I am wondering what you guys have as maybe your top 5 Blu-Ray titles. You know the ones that look so good you must have them.

Re: Must Have Blu-Ray Titles
I really liked the Planet Earth collection, its so beautiful. I'd probably also get Dark Knight, transformers, Band of Brothers. It really depends on what titles you like.
I really liked the Dark Knight and Transformers so thats why I got them when my dad got a Bluray player.

Re: Must Have Blu-Ray Titles
bluray or low-res a bad movie is a bad movie and great movie a great movie.
the only bluray i have (or would purchase) must fit this criteria:
1. far below full price
2. if an old movie must be a full lowry 2k or 4k (or similar) total restoration (no old dvd transfer)
3. proper aspect ratio of course
i have only
* matrix box (bundled with my player)
* godfather collection
* james bond 007 set 1
* james bond 007 set 2
All of these look fantastic to me are a no brainer to own. Just finished watching the first 8 episodes of Band of Brothers (never saw that) and it's a great series looking fantastic in HD.

Re: Must Have Blu-Ray Titles
Interesting. My girl got me Dark Knight and Transformers on BLu-Ray for Christmas. Transformers OWNS on Blu-Ray!
I'm personally waiting for Star Wars to come out. I don't think the original trilogy will look as keen on blu-ray as the newer ones. I can see Episode 2 and 3 being amazing as they were both shot digitally.
BTW, Barnes and Noble is having a buy 2 get 1 free on DVD and Blu-Ray. I don't know if it's over yet. You might pay a few dollars more shopping there but, hey, you get #3 free!
EDIT:
Damn! Lots of my favorite movies aren't out yet. Jurassic Park? Lord of the Rings?

Re: Must Have Blu-Ray Titles
Iron Man looks fantastic, good movie too.
Star Wars ep4-6 look FANTASTIC in 1080i from HBO/Cinemax, actually better than ep1 which needs a remaster already due to the transfer. They were all digitally restored when they did the special editions and will look fantastic... unfortunately none of those are coming for a long time to Blu-Ray... glen

Re: Must Have Blu-Ray Titles
Yeah, I always see Iron Man playing on the sets at work. Does look great.
I figured I'd get one of the Pirates movies as well.
I just wasn't sure if there were some older titles that didn't look as good, since they weren't actually shot digitally. I don't know what the re-mastering technique is to get old movies to 1080p and if there is a standard way all the movie companies use to get it there.
But judging by your post Glen that isn't the case.

LOTR is scheduled for release later this year.
Wall-E is great for Blu Ray as is Cars on Blu Ray too.

film has at least 4x the resolution of 1080p.
don't mistake what i wrote there, any film shot anytime benefits from being 1920x1080 resolution assuming it's transferred with reasonable care. a couple of early titles were botched and don't benefit from bluray but that is the exception not the rule.
i just watched a classic that looks fantastic... "a road to nowhere".
i'm just saying they're gouging for bluray and i wouldn't PURCHASE any movies i've seen unless they're inexpensive since netflix is as little as $7/month.
i mean you buy a bluray (like with dvd) then a year later they "remaster" it and re-release it. this happens over and over. the ones i'm buying i probably won't buy again in my lifetime or at least for a decade if not two. there is no place further they can take Dr. No anytime soon, which for me is a good thing

Re: Must Have Blu-Ray Titles
i'm only buying movies i will watch a good amount of times, i won't buy just to buy. i still only have about 40 DVD titles in my DVD collection. i'm pretty conservative when it comes to movies. for blu-ray i have iron man, spiderman trilogy, nightmare before christmas, dark knight.
