Re: Obama - Officially next preident of the USA.

The bigger the hype, the harder the fall. He's got a lot to live up to, and it will be difficult to please 300 million Americans. Soon the honeymoon will be over.

These 10 "Cannots" still ring true today.

You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot help small men by tearing down big men.
You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.
You cannot bring about prosperity, by discouraging thrift
You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatreds.
You cannot establish security on borrowed money.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away a man's initiative and independence.
You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.

It's time for all Americans to get off of their lazy @sses, and succeed!! There are no excuses anymore, the black man doesn't just have musicians, athletes, movie stars, and comedians to look up to! Now they have the pinnacle of what can be achieved, they, in one day, are no longer the down trodden...They have overcome. And dammit, whites have had everything for the last 250 years, how dare we cry like whiny b!tches! If you can't do it now it's because you aren't trying to do anything. Can't get a job because you don't have enough education, get more! Take baby steps to get there if you have to, but right now is when you have to start. Don't wait for tomorrow!

Can't get your sh!t together because it's tough out there, start organizing yourself for success. Stop watching reality fvcking television, and go do something for fvcks sake...

Get something done because you can!!!

And the scariest thing out there is Darin with a goddamned gun!!!
wow what r you trying to say

Re: Obama - Officially next preident of the USA.

It won't be long before he is going to be accused of 'not being black enough'.

I believe he is a genuine guy who is going to do what he feels is right for everyone regardless of race, and when that happens, well, see above.

Also, on a side note, let's knock off all the assassination talk, the "we're going to be attacked soon" talk (when has that not been true in this century anyway?), the gun talk, etc etc etc and keep this thread on topic, in accordance with the rules, and respectful to each other.

It fills me with hope that this thread has lasted this long

It was a good country while it lasted.

Ladies and gentleman, welcome to the new U.S.S.of A. The United Socialist States of Amerika.

Kiss your liberty, your freedoms, and your guns goodbye.

The good thing is, my kids got to see a relatively free country for a little while. Soon and the 1st and 2nd Amendment is trashed, maybe they'll remember what it was like back the the day when you could speak freely. Own and carry a handgun.

Side note, Btw: In Pennsylvania, you currently need no permit to carry a hand gun openly. You can wear a gun openly in a holster on your belt and walk down the street, into stores, malls and restaurants etc. No permit or license required. I'm sure this wont last. But, if your jacket accidentally covers the gun, and you don't have a concealed permit, you are then in trouble.

Good thing we have guitars to distract us. And cash jobs to avoid some of those pesky taxes.

So in other words "Leave things the way they are now" Right...?!?
Let corporate greed and corruption keep leading the way because "You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich" and "You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong." or how about "You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer" last time I checked many of our jobs had been shipped overseas so there are not many WAGE PAYERS left here!!!
How about this for a quote: "Be a part of the solution not of the problem"

Sounds like an indictment of Voodoo Economics (Reaganomics) as well as Reagan/Bush 1&2's policy of driving up the budget deficit to fund wars/the military.

Some of these quotes seem very strange coming from a man of faith; advice against helping other men? ignoring the plights of the poor? protecting the rich? No wonder these were quoted by Reagan.

Re: Obama - Officially next preident of the USA.

Eviltwin, you are making a lot of suppositions there.

What the quotes mean, for example, "you can not strengthen the weak by weakening the strong", is that the act of weakening the strong does not in and of itself strengthen the weak. They are still in the exact same place they were before. Now, if you want to apply that to reality, there are a million ways that the weakening of the strong benefits the weak, for example, the strong may have less means to pressure or exploit the weak. But that is a secondary effect. The single act of weakening the strong itself didn't change the position the weak were in.

I'm not AT ALL saying that I agree with those principles either, I'm just saying that your argument isn't a convincing one because at their core, the principles are true. It's the secondary effects, and their proper application that can lead to the changes.

I they're only weak or strong in relation to each other, if you weaken the strong, the weak become less weak, relative to the strong. So you have strenghtened them

"You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves."

You said that applies only to those with the ways and means to do it.

Umm, I'm pretty sure that's what "could" means, no?
