OK, I'll admit that my statement regarding an attack was just somewhat uninformed speculation. I guess it was just the comment about my age and not having an opinion in this thread that got to me. It's all good though.

No Davey, you're right. Glen (I love you like a brother but...) doesn't have a problem insulting and speaking down to other members and discussing terrorism and pointing out negative things military members have done, etc etc etc when it serves his agenda. Just don't do it when it doesn't serve his agenda. No double standard or anything.

Re: Obama - Officially next preident of the USA.

I find it rather ironic that these anti-socialism quotes (directly linked to Reagan) show up in an Obama thread, who has simultaneously been accused of being a Socialist (by the Right) and a Reagan lover/apologist/admirer (by Hillary's staff)

Which is probably what got him elected because he could appeal to both Socialists AND Reagan-nostalgics

Well, apparently Joe Biden agrees with your perspective. Not saying it's right, just saying...

Well, maybe not the first time. But the first time in a very long time. And I have visited other countries- and you know what? Most of them can't stand Americans and their country. I know that we have it better than a lot of countries out there, but we are nowhere near the best. What I meant was, finally myself and others around the world can respect this country for moving forward and and trying to improve itself instead of trying to repeat what was.

I should mention that I am white, I just can't stand segregation. Hence, you can see why Obama is a big inspiration to me.

Sorry guys, but you're reading into things. Davey has popped off several times derailing the thread with F.U.D and what appears to me as simple fearmongering. Even if it's legit conversation WE'RE NOT GONNA HAVE 20 PAGE CONVERSATIONS ON POSSIBLE TERRORIST ATTACKS. You know that. Also Davey doesn't have a perspective of living in AMERICA AFAIK. Come on.

Some of you guys seem to lack the desire of introspection and to do real critical thinking. We can't simply ignore major, major, major problems or rationalize their triviality since other countries have larger problems or whatever. Sorry, but the status quo is unacceptable and not good enough. It's well beneath our potential. To deny this not only counterproductive but also piling on to the problems we have.

If anyone feels that is insulting sorry for not mincing words but you'll have to stop shooting the messenger eventually ... glen

Andy, i hear you and i have no doubt many reading feel the same way. Being proud of our history - warts & all - is totally different from being proud of what we've seen & experienced in our lifetime. Don't apologize for not letting "good enough" be good enough ... glen

Popped off? Puh-leeze

If you read my last post you'll see that fearmongering wasn't my intention, but it speaks volumes that you could take it that way.

davey we're not comprehending each other and 13 pages so i'll end with this. here is what you posted and i replied to on page 4.

again you're not over here... i'm pretty sure we're "on alert" however you want to define that. that is not a knock on you it's just that you're sooooo NOT in touch with living in the USA this is conversation you simply can NOT engage in, not on this site nor in this thread... glen

Also, this should put to bed (or prove correct) the rumours that Bin Laden is physically ailing or even dead. I'm sure a tape will surface sooner or later and you can guarantee that if he IS alive then it'll most definitely be aimed at the new president. Obviously Bin Laden isn't the be-all/end-all of terrorism but hopefully you get my point.

Like I say, this isn't me being cynical, I just hope that U.S. citizens don't become complacent for a second.

As far as I'm concerned what I wrote was PURELY vanilla (and I openly admit that, it was done on purpose) for people to take from me and lead the conversation onwards. Again, I was merely trying to give a talking point and that is such a huge crime then I'm completely guilty and maybe I'll not bother in future. (Of course somebody is going think that I'm spitting my dummy there but that isn't so )

But, I still don't appreciate your tone with all the capitals in the 'NOT's and crap like that. If you really want to alienate people like me that've been around here and have contributed in a positive manner for so long for something like this then be my guest. It's not like I've tried pulling a Darin, and I'd at least expect a little more of a wide birth since you know my character and know that I'm here for the good times, not to spread fear and bullsh*t like that.

unreal.... this was buried in page-7

thanks, i bookmarked that to read asap.

obama raised TONS OF $$$ online. interestingly he wanted spending limits on the campaigns in 2007, got rejected then mastered what i've heard accurately called the POLITICAL WOODSTOCK.

http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/02/04...s-88-of-total/

In January 2008 Barack’s $28 million in online contributions came from more than 250,000 contributors. 90% were under $100. 40% were $25 or less, and 10,000 people gave $5 or $10 to the campaign.

i'm not worried about pandering to oil companies and the like.

No wonder some dummies who label themselves red or blue or pink or blue are dumbfounded by what happened here... glen

apologies but please realize i'm not accusing you of anything. i believe your post was benign in it's intent but simply inappropriate for the thread/site.

by the BOLDING and REPOST highlights that clearly, especially if you take the perspective of someone in the USA. ... glen

That is a staggering number to have come in such small increments and speaks volumes to his popularity. His ability to unite so many people and make politics something that people actually want to get involved in again is, I think, pretty unprecedented in my lifetime. It may just be one of his greatest accomplishments to, if nothing else, get a normally indifferent and unmotivated American people to inform themselves of the issues and take part in the political process. I can't even begin to imagine what percentage of us voted this year compared to years past.

Re: Obama - Officially next preident of the USA.

I was thinking earlier!! (dangerous, i know....i try not to do it often ), but Kev, if you had still been away on active duty while the ballot took place do you just have to miss it or do they provide voting opportunities for the military!!

Or do they think it not wise to give people on the front line the vote in case it guarantees they vote for the opposition
