Federal law states:
Any person born in the Canal Zone on or after February 26, 1904, and whether before or after the effective date of this chapter, whose father or mother or both at the time of the birth of such person was or is a citizen of the United States, is declared to be a citizen of the United States

What they are saying about Obama is that he isn't a US citizen because per Hawaii law (at the time), where he was born in 1961, the law stated that in order to be a US citizen either...
A. Both parents have to be American (his were not, mother is but father is Kenyan)
B. One parent (in his case, the mother) has to be US citizen and 5 of those years of citizenship had to be over the age of 16. She was only 18 when she had him, thus didn't meet the criteria.
Hence the talk is that he is not an actual US citizen.
Not saying it's true or not, I still stand by my comment above, but that is what the buzz is about.
let's look at it this way,
-his mother was born a US-citizen
-he was born in a US-State
what else should he have been but a US-citizen? Stateless? That makes no sense.
Again, federal law states:
All persons born in the United States, except those not subject to the jurisdiction of the U.S. government are US-citizens
Note that his father is often referred to as Kenyan, but Barack was born in 1961 when Kenya was NOT an independent state. His father would legally have been a citizen of the commonwealth and would've qualified for
UK-citizenship.
I don't know in what capacity his father was in Hawaii, but the only way for Barack not to qualify would be if both parents had been foreign citizens on diplomatic passports.
Let's stop calling him an African-American and use British-American in stead
For McCain "Natural Born" applies by extension.
For Obama "Natural Born" applies by inclusion.

Also, I'm sure you'll of read this:

...and it's pretty save to say that he
definitely
understands the perspective of being somebody in the US
But we'll not go there.
I interpret Bush's statement as more fear mongering. More of the usual from his horrible administration. I would not cite him as a good reference for terrorism information. Remember the so-called WMD's in Iraq?
Anyways, back on topic, I think Obama will do well and will surround himself with good people from both parties.

Yeah, like I said, if there was any truth to any of this it would have come out in the nomination process, especially when he started pulling ahead in the polls, and that was quite a while ago.

Re: Obama - Officially next preident of the USA.
His opponents kept throwing false rumors about his past just to cast doubt on his character throughout the campaign. I doubt it will stop even after the election is over. But it has become so comical and overboard, I've become numb to their constant mud slinging. The man is obviously very accomplished and intelligent, so the only thing they got left is character assassination.
and it's a wonderful thing to see his campaign built from the bottom up thanks to help of donations from average people. I donated $20-$50 here and there throughout the course of long campaign. Whenever he did something good, I donated. Whenever McCain did something rephrehnsible, I donate to Obama again. I think the millions of new donors he got was doing the same thing.

McCain the one who was actually using some illegal fund raising? and has involvement with what some "crazies" would call the Illuminati? Beat me up for posting this, but I think that character assasination is all there is to ALL of the attacks on Barack Obama. Why? Because he's actually comparitively innocent in the world of dirty politics, and if you accuse your opponent of doing the things that YOU do, before they get a chance to accuse you of those things, then it sounds FAR less credible when the same exact story is turned around on you.

the mudslinging is a tribute to to way he's carried himself & inspired masses thus far. it's like a barometer you know he's doing great when the haters are coming up with more spin and BS.
while this major change is still fresh and tough for some to accept it also seems really have have angered his opposition (ie. those fiddling while Rome burns). perhaps upon reflection the can get the message too and reexamine themselves and reconsider their purpose in politics and life.

Re: Obama - Officially next preident of the USA.
I am not a fan of Obama based upon his views on taxes.
That's my beef.
My upscale neighborhood is made up of Black Professionals, Indians, and Hispanics.
And I was really excited to see them feeling like they had a voice in this country.
After seeing the way my neighbors viewed the election, I hope that this helps our country bond.
I honestly hope that Obama does a fantastic job. If his presidency is a failure it is only going to hurt us all.

Re: Obama - Officially next preident of the USA.
hmmm.... Do we really think we have a grip on the real reality of BO? The goverment? World issues? What the media feeds us, truth or lies?
Do each of us build our own opinions to give ourselves a false hope and comfortable delusions that we can deal with in order to smile and boost our own ego daily.
So many times we come back, before we went, forget to question between the lines, pass blame for change to justify a view, frustration, pain or anger.
Seems silly to pass blame on one president for the current disasters, and believe one president is the answer to bring peace & hope, when the current situation has been progressing to it's current state of crises over the course of decades & decades.
Change is a process, and as deep as things are, yep....were in troubled times...
