Yes. Once is a mistake, twice is irresponsible, and since we are assigning blame to dogs in this thread, the dog going back a second time is stupid on the dog's part.
If you cant figure out where your dog was getting out, chain it up until you know, fix the problem, then let the dog run free in your yard. The pitbulls did exactly what they should have. A strange animal came in to the yard they are supposed to protect, and they took care of the it.

Re: Pit Bull just attacked me

Ok i see many of your points that my dog got what it deserved being mauled like that, and that it was a case of Land protection fair enough i understand that now.

I find that very offensive that you are saying that i was irresponsible with my dog, i fixed every gap i could find in our fence that afternoon, with bricks and timber i had lying around we thought that was enough (she was only a small dog so bricks would have been really hard to move for her) and thought that she had learnt her lesson but apparently she didn't so she got mauled for it. We tried to not let it happened again.
Of course i didn't want to see my dog get attacked again i tried my best to stop it but i guess my best wasn't good enough. I tried what more could i have done how can i be irresponsible for trying my best to avoid another situation like that.
I tried my best to be a responsible dog owner, don't say that i was irresponsible maybe i didn't make it crystal clear what happened the first time i posted, but we tried to the best of our abilities to avoid another situation like that.

Re: Pit Bull just attacked me

Ok, this one doesn't concern me but my uncle.

He had a great dane and 4 goats (Mum, dad, 2 kid goats) the great dane was placid as anything and would NEVER harm a soul. One day he was at work and 2 pitbulls jumped his fence and came onto his land, the great dane tried her best to fend off the pitbulls but they managed to get past her, they ended up mauling the whole family of goats. Now who is to be blamed for that, the Pitbulls invaded HIS yard and killed HIS goats.

He filed a complaint and the dogs were found and put down.

So thats another reason why i don't like them.

Re: Pit Bull just attacked me

Thanks JJemmer for pointing that out

I guess you are right so i'll just be quiet then

Anyways i was just stating my experiences i had with pitbulls.

Thought some might have wanted to know.

I can see that initially i had my opinions confused and jumbled.

Re: Pit Bull just attacked me

Yeah i guess your right, you can only go off what experiences you've had and that will lead to a biased opionion.

Did you chain the dog up, or at least watch it when it was out there?

All i had was a 1.5m leash (which was used for taking her for walks down to the local park), i wouldn't chain my dog up to that, thats animal cruelty they need to be on at least a 3 metre leash so that they aren't cooped up in one spot for a whole day, and aren't running around in their own faeces.
I would've bought i longer leash but i had no time to get one and plus she was not a threat to anyone but herself.

Then what should i have done when the dog was on the leash? (Fix the already fixed fence??)
How long should i have kept my dog on a leash for? (Forever??, until the Pitbulls went, until my dog went?)

My dog was an outside dog it was never allowed inside it would've pooped on the carpet and furniture.
So are you saying i should have taken a whole day or a whole week off school to sit at the window and watch my dog roam our yard all day long?, just to make sure that if it did escape i could try to catch it and get it back and if i couldn't save it, i would just have to watch the thing get mauled to death.

Like i said before i Looked, found, and fixed any problems i encountered in the fence, im not exactly sure how she got into the neighbours yard beacuse the fence was well reinforced, and it was a 6ft colourbond fence. Maybe she escaped through our front fence (which was well built as well) and on her wander around the streets she was stupid enough to stumble into Pitbull territory and get herself killed.

No-offense but it's really easy to sit back and say "You should have done this, this and this" when you were never in the situation to begin with, and when you weren't there. As the saying goes "its easier said than done".

Look i couldn't care less with what your going to say next to me you seem like a good character so i don't want to fight with you, i don't like arguing but if i believe in something i will stand up for it. I Believe that i did MY BEST to handle the situation in my eyes and my families eyes, if my way isn't up to scratch with how YOU would've handled it then im sorry, but it was our situation and we handled it OUR WAY and well its our problem now that we lost our dog, MY OWN FAULT nobody else is to blame but ME.

I did blame the pitbulls in my first post in this thread and if i offended anyone i am sorry, it was the logical choice at the time, now i see differently.

But I still don't like Pitbulls and never will not just because of this situation but all those other times you see children as young as 2 even younger get mauled by these beasts and have to live with the scars (Maybe even worse) their whole life.

They were placid dogs once but humans have taught them to be killers and hunters. Maybe our ancestors are to be blamed for the agressive Pitbull temperment, maybe not. They made them into killers and now we have to live with them.

Anyways i'm finished sorry for the long post.
