Re: Pit Bull just attacked me

Report it right away and get some medical attention. Rabies can be fatal.

There's a reason pit bulls have a track record like they do and it's partly the owners fault and partly the dogs fault.

Half of you people do not know what you're talking about because you have no experience or very little experience with the breed. Statements such as this are made out of ignorance and fear.

I've volunteered at our local Humane Society for almost 2 yrs now. During that time, I've dealt with (walked, socialized, played with, etc) a large amount of pitbulls, probably close to 3 dozen. I have never had a single problem with any of them and they were some of the most loyal and obedient dogs I have ever worked with.

Jim, I'm sorry to hear about your situation but the fact is it's the owner's fault and not the dog. They are responsible for their dog's action. Unfortunately, the dog may get euthanized but the owner won't.

If a pitbull attacks you, it's because of nurturing (more specifically lack thereof) and not nature.

ETA - Jim, you have a responsibility to the community-at-large to file a complaint. If this animal is dangerous, it has to be dealt with before any one else is hurt or worse yet, killed.

Whew...it's freakin hot out there Thought I'd take a ice tea break, lol

And yep...you're right big boy! A report IS filed, and they have been warned!

Animal control came back. I just petted the dog (god I hate dogs)

They checked her demeanor (and mine, lol) when they saw the neighbors and I working together they left, but she has to go to a vet for the leg. A report has been filed. They asked me AGAIN if I'd file a complaint and I said no again. I really don't think these people can afford $ 700 - $ 1000. In fact I know they can't.

The complaint is no differnet than the filed report except they have to pay. No one is any safer or less safe because the Pits get a 2 strike deal regardless, it'll still be there. Why make someone pay who doesn't have the money anyways?? I have sauve on the wounds. It's good stuff

You know...I like all animals, but I've NEVER liked dogs EVER! Oddly enough....her and I could possibly become buddies. I watched her with the baby and she treats her like hers....and they have total trust! I still don't know what to think of that and it makes me nervous! I'm watchin!

Craziest part of all............night before last I had a dream that I walked up on my cat's head. It was beheaded!!

That's actually a stereotype. It's all in how you train them, and trust me, I've owned a lot of dogs in my life.

Pitbulls are seemingly violent in nature, but they aren't. It seems that way, because a lot of people who own Pitbulls, buy and train them in order to be agressive. That's why you see a lot of them at junkyards, crackhouses, dog fights, etc.

It's the people who train them to be violent, who should be sterilized.

I can see not wanting to cause strife with your neighbors and hitting them up with a fine. But I think the point that everyone was making here was that there needs to be some kind of official documentation of that attack, if that's there then I can see cutting your neighbors a break. I just hope that the dog never bites anyone again. You're a good person Jim. I wonder if I would have been so gracious as you in the same situation.

hopefully... but care NEEDS to be taken to ensure the "report" of the incident is properly documented.

no offense, but i'm not 100% convinced that is the case but will remain hopeful for "next time". ...glen

Re: Pit Bull just attacked me

I'm with Zoot...as long as the dog is known to the authorities, that's what matters even though a complaint would have been more effective. Your neighbours sound irresponsible but good relations with them at the moment are key...bad neighbours can make your life miserable. You did the right thing.

+1

My sister has 3 Pitbulls, one of them is affraid of cats. All 3 of them are jsut as well behaved as any other dog. One was brought up to be tough, but her husband trained it better. The people are the sole source of blame, not the dog. That being said, good thing you kicked the sht out of it lessons like that will teach it not to (allow me to put it in words your gang banger neighbors will understand) "act the fool". Let me know if they want to get their poose together man, I'll be out there with some Chicago Ironworkers.

Hey Jim....the reason the dog goes away when he sees you now is he is thinking "ewwww....there's that guy whose blood tastes of beer"!!

Re: Pit Bull just attacked me

As much as I'd like to believe Pit Bulls are good dogs and it's just bad owners that cause the problem I have to call BS.
I have a Labrador Retriever. She brings me stuff all day long because that is what she was bred to do. What was a Pit Bull bred to do?

Re: Pit Bull just attacked me

Its just a dog man, it does whatever its brought up to do. How many pit bulls have you owned, or do you know people that own them? Of course you only hear stories about when pit bulls attack because there is no story when they dont. Would you change your mind if every day I posted "I went ot my sister's house today and was not attacked by a pit bull"

Re: Pit Bull just attacked me

I have to disagree, Rotti.

I once owned an American Pit (we had to put him down last April ), and it was one of the sweetest dogs I've ever owned. He was every as bit as well mannered as my Labs, and there wasn't a mean bone in his body. Hell, if somebody had broken into our house, he would have licked them to death.

Having owned a Pit Bull, I can safely say, that it's how you raise the dog. Animals are very much like their owners. If somebody owns a Pit, and beats it, it's going to be mean, just like the person who owns it.
