Yes, but it's not just one. I have seen at least 5 cases in the last month in the papers, while there have been none with other dogs.

I believe that's normally the case, "it's generally the owner, not the breed".

But there is enough evidence out there that shows the American Pitbull is inherently a vicious and unpredictable breed. Enough evidence that has seen the laws change in New South Wales Australia to ban the breed, and make it illegal to buy or breed American Pitbulls.

Re: Pit Bull just attacked me

P.S. I am a dog person. But from what I've seen and read the American Pitbull was bred to fight and kill, and due to this they are more unpredictable than other breeds.

That statistic is skewed by the fact that there are far more white males in the societies where that survey would've been taken.

What about my American Pit? It was neither vicious, nor unpredictable.

Stop beating around the bush and answer my question.

Re: Pit Bull just attacked me

edit.... whoops, posted after only reading first 2 pages..

personally i think there should be harsher treatment of bad/cruel owners of any dog.. bigger fines or detainment and jailtime for bad animal cruelty

Your beliefs no matter how strongly you feel about them do not a fact make. You can quote anything you want and I can find counterpoint written by someone else. Its all banter. You have never owned a Pitt and you probably will ever. Many breeds were developed for fighting whether sport or militarily. Fact is more morons own Pitts and the media will print or say anything to get ratings.

Re: Pit Bull just attacked me

I've only read the first page, and I'm sorry about this event. Hope you get better soon and everything gets settled. But I have to say, it's all in how they are trained. It just so happens to be that many low class people get pit bulls because they have the reputation of being the "badass" dogs. Because they aren't properly cared for and trained, they end up becoming out of control, just as any other dog would. Some of the best dogs I've known are pit bulls (neighbors near my dad's shop used to have some).

I'm talking about the breed in general. It would seem that there are more dangerous American Pitbulls than safe ones.

From what I've read it's easier for an inexperienced dog owner to turn an American Pitbull into an unpredictably vicious dog than it is with other breeds. Hence the ban here and other areas.

Re: Pit Bull just attacked me

I have seen both sides. I've seen pit bulls who were beaten savagely by their white trash owners to make them meaner than hell and I've also seen and played with pit bulls who were a house dog like any other that was loved and cared for by the owner. The owner made the difference in how the dog turned out. It was the dog just responding to what it has been taught. The dog that was loved and cared for was loving and caring and sweet. The one that was beaten and abused was vicious as hell.

Yes, but isn't a government changing legislation to outlaw the breed something to take note of?

I have a friend that owned 2 American Pitbull's. They were beautiful dogs, and they never attacked anyone. But it seems they were an exception to the rule.

Re: Pit Bull just attacked me

out of the people complaining about pits, not many are posting solutions.. i think everyone could agree that through sheers statistics, there are certain breeds that are potentially more volatile.

so i think a good solution may be to need a permit or license to own certain breeds. to actually need to apply and show you are not an idiot.. thereby screening all the dickheads out of ownership
