cool i agree, you're not really getting my point though..
i was just talking about the way our society often deals with like things.. by taking a precaution against a statistically higher risk..
turning a nice dog into a hellhound may be generally harder for the *******s to do if they don't have easy access to the potentially more dangerous animals is my point..

Re: Pit Bull just attacked me
A couple of years back now i had a little dog she was a cross with something i can't remember, anyway our neighbour had 2 Pit bulls as pets, anyway the second last day during the holidays she managed to get under the fence and into the neighbours yard, the 2 dogs started attacking her i was inside and heard the commotion so i ran out side to see what was going on, i was lucky enough to get there in time she was hiding in a corner, and the pit bulls were trying to get her so i manged to get the garden hose and a couple of rocks and was just hosing the dogs and hitting them with rocks, anyways that stunned them a bit enough for us to call her over back under the fence. She had some puncture wounds and needed to be taken to the vet, so she got some meds and was fine for two days.
Anyways the first day back to school, for some stupid reason i have no idea why she decided to go back over to visit the Pit bulls agian, unfortunately i was at school at this present time so i couldn't help, anyway my mum tried as best she could to get our dog back but she ended up being mauled by them, when i got home i heard the news and was in utter shock, i couldn't believe what had happened. We never found her body we're guessing its under his house but we're not entirely sure, but we definately know that the Pit bulls got her.
Sorry for the rant i know i wasn't the one that got attacked by the dogs but they still affected me. To this day i hate pit bulls, i know people say don't let one bad experience change the way you view something, i couldn't really give 2 hoots they got my dog and i wanted to make them pay so bad, But im not that type of person that harms animals even if they are evil POS.
Again sorry for the rant.

So your dog went in their yard twice, and it's the pit bulls faults?
Responsible dog ownership is for ALL people with dogs, not just people with certain breeds

Re: Pit Bull just attacked me
I see your point, yes my dog was stupid for going in their yard and it was probably its fault for being killed, but i just don't understand why pit bulls are so vicious and are hell bent on destruction.
There are other dogs in my street and they are harmless as they wander around and are friendly enough that you can go up to them an give them a pat and i've never seen 1 of them hurt another animal when it's been on their land.
anyway I was just sharing my experince i had with pitbulls.

Re: Pit Bull just attacked me
So are you saying that i was irresponsible with my dog?
We made sure that any place she could not get out anywhere was sealed i guess she found a big enough spot to get through i can't be blamed for that, we cared for her the best we could, she had a good home where she was well loved and well cared for, i don't know why she decided to go to the neighbours yard, i think she just wanted friends or animal companionship she was a dumb dog never learnt from her mistakes but she didn't have to pay for her mistakes that way thats just not right.
Oh BTW JJemmer i hope you recover and i hope all is well.

Re: Pit Bull just attacked me
File a complaint, a few months back a toddler was killer by a Rotweiler (sp) which had attacked people before but no one had filed complaints.
If you keep aggressive dogs around, its like playing with a loaded gun.
I've got an Alsatian at home, she's a great dog, we've had her since she was about 6 weeks old and she's great around kids, but if she ever attacked one for whatever reason she'd have to go, its all part of being a responsible dog owner, if you cant keep your dog from attacking people, then you shouldnt keep them.

Re: Pit Bull just attacked me
Dayum........I guess I should have figured what this would start. There is no winning or ending this argument because you can state your point until you are blue in the face and someone will always come back with a return.
Personally, I do NOT like Pit Bulls!! I never have and never will!
And I'm an animal lover!!!!! This incident just reassured me of WHY I do not like them. Many people have stated that they are like other dogs! That it's all in the way an owner trains them.
To an extent that it correct, but these are NOT like other dogs. Even well trained pit bulls have an "inborn" tendency to snap w/o reason! Say the wrong kid walks in the house. I've witnessed that first hand as well and the dog was "until that point" very friendly. The other reason they are NOT like other dogs is because of the strength in the shoulder / frontal body section and a jaw that can snap a mans forearm. Some of their heads are as big as a human head and it's ALL JAW!! I see absolutely NO point in owning an animal like this!
These people let this dog around their baby all the time. It's head is twice the size of the kids! I can tell he likes her but I personally think they are friggen crazy and told them than more than once!! It makes me really nervous to see that!
I live in an unincorporated rural area outside of Denver. "IN" Denver city limits, Pit's are banned w/ HARSH penalties if they find one in your possession! Pit bulls are allowed here. They have the "two strikes your out" penalty. The dog that my confrontation was with now has one strike. They documented her tag and and location. If ANYTHING happens again with this animal it will be put down (and rightfully so)
On a more positive note, the fence secured. I had enough left over from my fence to re-do the whole left side and back of their yard. The right side is my fence and we put up two security gates as well at the front left/right. It looks pretty nice
6'1/2 security fence so I doubt the dog will be able to get out. Plus they keep her (both of them) chained up now. They have another one that is just a pup.
I've been wondering what the heck I was gonna do with all that left over materials stuff because I was sick of looking at it so it went to a good purpose.
They were very appreicative and seem nice people. (though not the smartest, lol) Made some new friends and man can she cook!!

Thanks ~D. Yeah it's good stuff. My arm wounds (in the pic) are doing pretty good. No biggie! The one that bothers me is the gash in my ribs, but another two days and it'll all be good. Just a mere flesh wound
Thanks everyone for your concern and nice words!!!

Any dog can be nice, just like any dog can turn on people, but Pitbulls are breed of killers, they attack much more persistantly than other dogs.
Almost every dog will attack in self defence, then wander off, alot of pitbulls will bite then run if they feel threatened, its the fact that they, more often than other breeds, will attack to kill rather than attack to defend themselves.
Thats not to say they're a bad breed, its how you train them, at one point German Shepards were the same, they were bred to be attack dogs, these days they're a hell of alot tamer.
Jim, I hope it doesnt happen again and you heal up soon man.

Re: Pit Bull just attacked me
And....eh hem......just to clarify!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A police report WAS FILED!!! The animal control officers here ARE badged officers in blues! It's taken very seriously, but they get two strikes unless one kills or seriously mauls somebody. I don't understand it, but that's the way it is
Even if I wanted to have the dog put down, I doubt I could.
It's on a chain behind a 6 1/2 foot fence. That's all that could be done
