Post Your Home Theater

I finally got the last few items I needed and wasted time finding stock photos for all this stuff, so I figured I'd post a brag thread about it here.

Whenever we have a house, I'll get a sub, but there's no use for apartment living. I need a new record player as well... but that's not really home theater.

TV: Westinghouse LVM-37W3 - 37″ LCD Monitor - 1920×1080p resolution!

Cable/DVR: Time Warner Cable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HD

DVD: Toshiba SD-6980 up-converting DVD player

Receiver: Harmon Kardon HK-3485 - Stereo receiver 120 Watts per channel

Speakers: B&W Matrix 805 - 6.5″ drivers with aluminum tweeters

Gaming: Nintento Wii - for the woman more than me, but super fun regardless

Remote: Logitech Harmony 880 - one badass remote:

Not a big fan of television. Watching TV is a waste of time; one could be doing other things such as playing guitar.

As i'm still at home with parents i'll list my bedroom set up.
32" philips ambilight wall mounted.

xbox 360, you all know what they look like.
Some crappy samsung dvd player.
With the sic speakers in the tv no need for any extra speakers.

argh clicked post before i replied to jay lol. You got a nice set up here mate. When I move out plan is to keep my 32 for the bedroom and get the 37" 1080p ambilight for the main room with the ambibar speaker system they do for it.

I have a TV for football and movies. I'll agree that most television programming is about as useful as the crowd of goons that were shopping at the grocery store earlier when I was trying to quickly pick up a few things.

I think one could just as easily argue that playing guitar (for 99.9% of the population) is just as worthwhile as picking your nose. Either way you're making no useful contribution to society by participating in that activity.

It's all about what you find enjoyment in.

I appreciate a nice home theater and that is some cool gear. Congrats. I'm still using an old school rear projection. It's big though. 54" Toshiba. I'll probably keep it until it dies. With that I have a surround package DVD combo thingy. It has a sub and sounds OK.

Re: Post Your Home Theater

My dad has a pretty nice one, but it's in his office, so I really can't watch anything on it. Or rather, I'm not allowed to.

I personally think that a lot of home theaters are overkill, especially when they're used to watch mediocre films and Grey's Anatomy. Hell, I think HD is overkill unless you're watching a movie that has particularly good cinematography, in which case HD would be the only format that would do the film justice. I think that it's excessive when it's used for watching everyday TV, like a great deal of American culture is.

Home theaters are great for sports, movies, concert DVD's, stuff like that. I want one like this.

Re: Post Your Home Theater

HD is fantastic for football, Discovery channel and concerts (assuming the concert actually shows more shots of the band than the crowd). Discovery HD is one of my favorites though. They have absolutely fantastic visuals.

I honestly haven't seen much for movies in HD, since most of the movies shown on HD channels were not shot in HD and are simply being upconverted in some way. It still looks really nice compared to an SD TV, but there is still a difference when comparing to true 720/1080p.

Exactly. My dad mainly uses his for Fox News and CNBC, though, which is complete overkill. He has a lot of DVDs, but he doesn't watch them much anymore.

Re: Post Your Home Theater

I bought a little Denon set up two weeks ago following the demise of the previous one. Last one in the shop and a more than 50% discount. It's considerably less intrusive than the previous set, all speakers bar the sub are 5 1/2" high, which suits my very small townhouse much better. Not enormously loud, but good definition all round.

Gaming remains PS2, I'm damned if I'm going to spend what they're asking for a PS3, Blu-ray or not.

Now to do something about getting a LCD screen...

Re: Post Your Home Theater

Here's my current setup:

Samsung LNT4665F 46" 1080p
Onkyo TX-SR605
Sony Playstation 3
Sony Playstation 2
Xbox 360
Nintendo Wii

I love viewing my digi cam photos on the LCD via PS3, they look stunning :-D
and BluRay movies look and sound stunning, makes cable HD movies almost hard to watch in comparison.

I barely have time to post here on Jemsite - nevermind waste time watching the boob-tube.

Really, any free time I spend holding a guitar - not a remote. Geeeesh.
