Prepaid credit cards for visiting the UK?

I've been searching for stuff on this, but everything I've found so far requires you be a UK resident. Does anyone know of a prepaid visa/mc that works for travelers going to the UK?

The major US banks (US Bank, Chase, etc) typically are charging 3% per transaction for conversion rates on their credit cards. Our own bank charges 1%, which is obviously better, but still stinks. Don't want to deal with the risk of carrying traveler's checks or lots of cash.

Sorry, Jay, I've never heard of these prepaid credit cards

I'd suggest that as most things cost so much over here anyway compared to the US, you wouldn't even notice the 1% more

When and Whereabouts are you visiting?

Never heard of them in the UK either. I guess with the advent of debit cards there isn't much market for them.

Don't worry about a credit card - most places you'll visit here (particularly in the south-west) still use the barter system. Just make sure you pack plenty of chickens, pigs and goats.

IbanezFreak777 - thanks, I'll check them out.

MarkE - I'll be traveling with two women, so I should get by just fine bartering.

Jono - Coming the last week of November (over the US Thanksgiving). Staying in London - Trafalgar Square.

Also, from reading a bit more, seems that using my debit card and getting cash as needed in London is a good way to go. Turns out my bank is really nice about fees... I only pay the ATM fee in London and if I use my card as a VISA for purchases, I pay the 1% fee that VISA imposes.
