Presidential Inauguration 2009....

Just wondering if anyone's going to be crazy enough to come out to my neck of the woods to see Obama get sworn in (if you can see that far, that is ) ?

Re: Presidential Inauguration 2009....

i'm very glad to see Bush gone. i'm not into politics much and don't have any faith in any of it. they look out for themselves and use us workers to fuel their machine. i have nothing against obama...i used to really like him as a senator and now i just like him. i have a problem with someone throwing a party in chicago (before winning the election) costing what...3 million....when i walk passed homeless in the streets daily on the way to work. maybe he could have spent 1 million max and given 2 million to the shelters and the homeless and the children and the schools. that would have been great. maybe i see things in other ways. i'm very involved in the charity stuff, member of humane society and few other groups benefiting the homeless and clothing for kids. i welcome the change and am sure he will do fine, i hope. i don't envy anyone trying to fix this economic situation.

Re: Presidential Inauguration 2009....

It's too bad the inauguration isn't on the 18th, given that the 19th is a holiday here. I know there are a lot of people who really feel like this is a day that should be celebrated long and hard, and it's a bit unfortunate they can't go crazy like they might with a day off following.

I couldn't care less. As much as I was an "anyone but Bush" guy in 04, I was an "anyone but Obama" guy in 08. Good for him, history in the making, blah blah blah. I hope he does well for the country and I hope Republicans can get the house and or senate soon to keep checks and balances. One party in control of everything isn't good for anyone.

Re: Presidential Inauguration 2009....

It is historic. It's a new chapter in our history. Judging from his known appointments it appears he is catering to no specific party at this point.

This is also a turning point.
Omaba signals in a new era - the country is not run by the 'baby-boomers' anymore.
This tells me we may see even more change than we anticipate with normal election cycles.

Fasten your seatbelts......

Ditto!

I hope Obama will steer the ship to a new course, but expectations are so high, i don't want to swap with him.

It is a historic day. I will at least try to watch it live on TV. I'll be at work but I'll take a break to tune in.

Re: Presidential Inauguration 2009....

It happens every 4 years. It doesn't matter if you're Dem or GOP.

Spend a gazillion dollars to get elected.

Promise to make things better.

Get elected.

Maintain the status quo - tax the citizens at the highest rate you can get away with and spend it on pet projects or limited programs that do little to help 90% of the population.

Run for another term.

Repeat as above.

Obama preached change for 2 years on the campaign trail. The first thing he did after the election was to nominate a cabinet full of cronies and Washington insiders. The only thing that's gonna change are the names on the office doors.

If the mass population of the US keeps looking to politicians to turn this country around, they might as well follow the leader right off the cliff with the rest of the "sheeple".
