Question for computer people

Im trying to play a downloaded version of Warcraft II on my Windows 2000 PC, which doesnt run DOS alone. From what I understand, Warcraft should run in windows, but when I try to run it, I get a "Music card not found" error and it shuts down.

Now I can run it in "DOSBox", which as you may know is an MS-DOS emulator. It works, but its very slow. Unplayable. I've tried overclocking and skipping frames on it but its still too slow when I have a large group starting to grow.

First off, does anyone know how I can get it to run in Windows directly? I assume it would run fast enough. DOSBox is supposed to slow down games or something.

Is it maybe the copy I found and downloaded?? Im willing to shell out the 10-15 bucks I can buy it for on **** if it will work, but I want to be sure.

Anyways Im out of ideas and I like the game because of how much I played it when it came out. Any help would be great, thanks guys!

Re: Question for computer people

maybe since its an old game it wont run in windows 2000 so try right clicking the icon for Warcraft 2 and then go to the compatibility tab and try setting it to like windows 95 or 98. if that doesnt work it might be an error in the coding of the file

Warcraft II was made in like 1995, it sould run fine even on win98....Chances are you have a corrupt copy, I would just go shuffle around in the old bins at EB games, I'm sure you could get it for $10 or even less on E-bay.

Re: Question for computer people

maybe you need to update win2k to the most recent service pack or update your audio card drivers....video card drivers too while you're at it. if it works on XP then that copy is not corrupted. i would update win2k to the most recent patches via microsoft windows update. take care of the audio and video drivers via the manufacturer's website. good luck.
