Question on Venezuela

How dangerous is it for Americans to go there?

I have a friend who is being asked about accepting an assignment there. I told him he really needs to think this thru, because it seems there is lots of talk of dangers in VZ these days.

THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL THREAD!!!

Just wondering if anyone else has had experiences there and what can be expected ?

Re: Question on Venezuela

"Hot spots" or "Zones" for Americans change all the time around the world.
It is safer than certain mideast countries, but probably better avoid if possible.

But then again I was in The Bronx yesterday - and sometimes that's way more dangerous....."^)

Re: Question on Venezuela

I have no idea, but as a rule south America, can be dangerous. If you are in the wrong places at the wrong times. If your mate has an assignment, will they be putting him in a nice hotel, in a good area ? In the end its your mates problem, and if he decides to point his life in a certain direction, you shouldn't but in to much, because if he decides not to go, he may regret it one day, and partially blame you...

Just make sure he will be in the better areas, and he needs to educate himself about travelling there. get him a book on VZ

Re: Question on Venezuela

I had no problems there. We used public transportation to go from La Guaira to Caracas. When in Caracas we used the subway. Never had any troubles at all. Drank a lot of Polar Beer, which was really cheap - 8 cold cold ounces for about 25¢! CRAZY DRIVERS. I don't think they paint lines to define lanes nor do I believe there are any rules governing driving!

Check out the CIA's World Fact Book for info on Venezuela: https://www.cia.gov/library/publicat...k/geos/ve.html Not much travel our tourist info, but info nonetheless.

I'd go back again.
