[quote=kirk;530716]It had 5 transmissions put in it, the first four were warranty OEM installed in rapid succession. The fifth was Ford's way of saying "we give up" and they installed an aftermarket.

The mechanics told me they thought it was a head gasket and possibly a cracked cylinder. I actually limped the car home yesterday and I have a mechanic who is going to look at it one more time.

Five transmissions!!!! wow!! I woulda sold that sucker. In 2001 I bought a dodge truck at 13K the transmission grenaded. I took it in got a new transmission then drove it to a GMC dealer traded it cashed out the warranty and swore I'd never stray again lol.

Its tough to find used parts for those engines as they are all prone to the aforementioned problems. My moms sable(mercury version of a taurus) did the same thing. I put a head gasket in it. She took it too a shop and they wanted to charge her 2500 bucks so I did it. Front wheel drives suck to work on. Told her to get rid of it but she still has it. Its got about 250K on it now.

Thanks, the new ones are cool and I love pretty much all-styles of the Mustang, mostly '99-'04, how they have the old '87-'93 (boxey) look. The newer ones have the 60s look but I like how they still kept the '99-'04 look as well which is cool.

Nope, might walk to the mailbox at the end of the driveway or maybe from the car to the grocery store. Of course, I live in the suburbs where very few things are within walking distance. The nearest store is only a mile away, but its still too far to walk when you only need cigarettes.

Mass transit in my neighborhood is nearly non-existant. No trains, subways and limited bus service. In the area in which I work they have an extensive bus service.

I have to drive 55 miles (one way) to my office, plus I drive about 1,000 miles a month while I am working. Thankfully my company pays for this while I am working - but not to and from the office.

Yeah, Dallas is like that. The city is laid out flat and spread really wide. Walking places takes forever.

Not to mention that its HOOOOOOOTTTT.

That's another good point - Michigan in the winter? Better have a good pair of gloves and a triple fat goose coat.

I guessed you had good reason Kirk. You see in England everything is smaller and crammed together!! And don't get anyone started on our fuel prices (****ing criminal) . If we have to do that much driving the government over here would then try and make up more taxes to charge us with.

Re: RIP - My 97 Taurus

I had a 1990 that JUST missed 200k. I got 192,000 out of it (actually I bought it used with 68k on it and beat heck out of it for 12 years). Good basic car. Now I have wife's handmedown 1995 Sentra. Not sure if I WANT this one to survive that long...

I'm thinkin' "used Prius", but it'll probably cost $5 less than a NEW one.
