RIP - My 97 Taurus

Glad I didn't invest in the rifle. I was driving home from work last week when my 1997 Ford Taurus with 220,000 miles on it died on the side of the road. The repairs would cost more than the car itself is worth. She lived a good life and will be sorely missed.

After a week and a half of driving the wife's grocery getter (or loser cruiser, whichever you prefer) and countless hours "buidling" cars on the internet and test driving at the dealerships, I wound up getting a 2007 Chevy HHR. Very nice and the price was right. This is the first car I've owned that has ever really made me "enthusiastic" about being an owner. Any other HHR owners here?

Re: RIP - My 97 Taurus

wow, that's some mileage right there. 220,000 miles, wow. i've been everywhere in my mom's 4runner, and it has barely half that on it. it's nice to know that you lived it up to its purpose.

i'm not old enough to drive yet, two more months till i'm able to get a permit!

I'd like to see how many miles I can get out of my 2000 Honda CRV. Its at 60,000 right now, 30,000 of those belong to me

My friend told me about his grandpa who had a 1983 Mazda Truck that he managed to put about 600,000 miles on before it flat out died. Pretty incredible.

Hondas seem to go for a long time. Toyotas do too and I also know someone who owns a Subaru with 250k on it.

Me, the most I ever put on a car was a 1991 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX AWD (turbo), it was nice sports car but it had 101k when I bought it. By the time I had alot of money into it for repairs, I decided to finally let her go, it had 180k on it.

I have a Ford Mustang CV V6 (white w/tan top), I put some GT 17s on it and it has 33k on it. I bought it at 12k, it's a great car. I put it away for the winter and drive a winter beater ('93 Buick Skylark), it has 158k on it.

Here is my 'Stang~ http://www.shawncastonguay.com/mustang.html

Those tarus' have a pretty bad habit of blowing head gaskets and cracking heads. 220K I'd say ya got your moneys worth. Good score on the HHR. All I own are GM trucks.

It had 5 transmissions put in it, the first four were warranty OEM installed in rapid succession. The fifth was Ford's way of saying "we give up" and they installed an aftermarket.

The mechanics told me they thought it was a head gasket and possibly a cracked cylinder. I actually limped the car home yesterday and I have a mechanic who is going to look at it one more time.

Re: RIP - My 97 Taurus

I've never owned a new car in my life, so I can relate to cars with high mileage.
Most have been Toyota trucks with over 125,000 miles on them.
I have a 93' Chevy Camaro with 68,000 miles on it now. So I guess I'm moving up
Congrats on the new ride though!!

Re: RIP - My 97 Taurus

Any decent car should be able to get 200,000 plus miles on them provided they are maintained properly. My 1995 Firebird has 220K, doesn't burn a drop of oil and has the original clutch. The only real maintainance it has had are regular oil/brake pad changes. Keep the oil fresh and the engine should run for a long time.

My VW Golf had about 157,000 on the clock when I sold it. My Escort has about 104,000 at the moment.
