Does anyone remember the movie where a satelite returns to earth with a bacteria on it and then starts to kill people?
I remember reading years ago that NASA was concerned about sending the first Astronauts into space because they were afraid of bring back a virus or bacteria that would flourish in our environment.

Mystery illness strikes after meteorite hits Peruvian village

LIMA (AFP) - Villagers in southern Peru were struck by a mysterious illness after a meteorite made a fiery crash to Earth in their area, regional authorities said Monday.

Around midday Saturday, villagers were startled by an explosion and a fireball that many were convinced was an airplane crashing near their remote village, located in the high Andes department of Puno in the Desaguadero region, near the border with Bolivia.

Residents complained of headaches and vomiting brought on by a "strange odor," local health department official Jorge Lopez told Peruvian radio RPP.

Seven policemen who went to check on the reports also became ill and had to be given oxygen before being hospitalized, Lopez said.

Rescue teams and experts were dispatched to the scene, where the meteorite left a 100-foot-wide (30-meter-wide) and 20-foot-deep (six-meter-deep) crater, said local official Marco Limache.

"Boiling water started coming out of the crater and particles of rock and cinders were found nearby. Residents are very concerned," he said.

Not sure if that is the right one, but still an excellent movie with the same premise.

The other possibility is that there was something in the ground that was boiled off into the air.
IT has been proven that some forms of warts, polyps, and other growths, when lased, can infect anyone who may happen to breathe in the plume. That is why you'll see an evacuation system in surgical areas that use lasers or electrical surgical units (ESU).

Just a hypothesis.

Every now and then Ebola pops up in the Congo, but people don't know what causes the sporadic outbreaks.

"The Andromeda Strain" the movie creeped me out for years, id have nightmares, i saw it as a nipper and just rememebr the futility of trying to find, something like a microbe and it was in some mesh type stuff and they kept showing it to us and the weird music would come on. i aint gonna sleep well tonight.
talking of space travel, how about nasa going back to the moon, back to? yeah right. there going back and its gonna take em 25 years to do it! just fire up the trusty saturn 5 it worked almost every time 30 years ago! untill viewing figure went down, so too did the funding then on the 13 minute of the 13 hour of the 13 day of the 13 mission, everyone was glued to the T.V... you could get a script past any movie studio now, but we lapped it up.LOL
